You speak of what you do not know. The portion of games with mod tools or that are moddable at all is microscopic in comparison, and having seen many devs' tools most are not at a point that they could be used for public consumption, being constantly work in progress.tirpider wrote:re: Star Wars Battlefront (3?) mod tools
Pandemic and LucasArts were (very) nice and let us play with their toys. I don't see anyone affiliated with Disney or EA being so generous.
As for too complicated.. well, thats just arrogance talking. Us knuckle dragging plebs couldn't possibly figure out how to count to triangle like they do.

I really hope EA isn't rebooting the Star Wars Battlefront franchise to sell another half-baked video game. I think that for EA, the name of the game is the name of the game a lot of the time.

Re: SWBF3 Announced
No, I do understand that in-house development tools are very often un-user friendly beasts.
But for the games that have been modded in the past, this has almost always been the case.
Sometimes no tools at all are released and only a vague idea and creative tinkering on the part of clever code gnomes makes a game 'moddable'. So the tools are optional, imo.
The part I take offense at is the claim that their tools are to elevated, or complex for mere mortal hackers and dummy modders to figure out. Their site claims that Frostbite represents an evolution of technology and it's implementation (and a lot of fluffy pointing at blockbuster titles as examples.) All I see is that they are trying to maintain exclusive knowldge for as long as possible to squeeze every once of value they can out of their new "paradigm" before it leaks out and everyone is doing it.
That's fine. They built it and should roll in the profits it can reward them with, but to make the claim that they are somehow smarter (and therefore better) than lowly gamers and modders that have (theough miracles, I guess) managed to alter, hack and mod even the most un-moddable games since doom....
I find it egotistical and insulting.
They could have very easily said they won't release any modding toolset because they don't want to support them.. because they don't want to expose potential cheats.. because they want to maintain exclusive content privileges.. nope. They went with "Your too dumb to do it."
Since it hit a nerve with me, then I guess they might be right. I'll be in the corner picking my nose.

Sorry for all the typos, I kept trying to eat the keyboard while typing.
And I apologize if it sounds hostile or angry. I'm not. But it it did grab me the wrong way.

HAHA. Well, we know it's not going to the Wii U. I doubt it won't be on the PC at least, though.

If it doesn't exist on the PC, it might as well not exist anywhere as far as I'm concerned.

I've always found the Xbox & PS controls to be a bit strange.

I screamed like a Justin Bieber fan when I saw the speeder and the ATAT in the EA stream (I'm not fan of Justin Bieber, if you're asking it right now...).
I'm very very happy about this.
Finally, Battlefront is back.

This is the best gaming day ever. Both of my two favorite game franchises, both long-dead, were just suddenly whipped back to life for next gen consoles. Zoo Tycoon and Battlefront 3. At once. I mean, wow. Just... just flippin' wow.

Yeah. Like they said, this year will be great for the gamers... Ryse: Son of Rome, Fable Anniversary, Elder Scrolls Online, Battlefield 4... And also, Star Wars Battlefront, but we don't know the release date : (BF2-Master wrote:This is the best gaming day ever. Re: SWBF3 Announced
If there's one reason they wouldn't release mod tools, it's because they know the modding community can make content just as good as their DLC.

I'd like to take this time to point out that modern games can have both DLC and mods. See: Skyrim and Portal 2. Now, we're talking EA here, so it's probably not likely. But it's been done.

Re: SWBF3 Announced
It's especially unlikely given that modders will be more likely to have the resources to make professional-quality maps and mods for Battlefield than for Skyrim, because all you need to do really is make the world and change the guns, but for skyrim you also need to code the quests and get high-quality voice actors. Also EA.Twilight_Warrior wrote:I'd like to take this time to point out that modern games can have both DLC and mods. See: Skyrim and Portal 2. Now, we're talking EA here, so it's probably not likely. Surface is Microsoft's tablet, and is more commonly called (link following) Microsoft Surface. Also as you my have noticed my tiny text says "Platforms not yet announced". Do you really think ea can cancel this project? If they do they'll loose a lot of fans
