Flipped autoturrets

Post by jangoisbaddest »

I'm placing autoturrets on the underside of my cap ships, and there is a bit of a problem. Though the turret is flexible the way I want (can go almost perpindicular with the hull, which mirrors the upright ones), this is not the case for the AI. It's like they still think the turret is rightside - up, and they only target things above them, not below them. In other words, flying underneath the cap ship is not dangerous at all, but flying level with the side of it is. Is there any way I can re - orient the AI? How would I go about doing that?

Perhaps I should be more specific (I can sometimes be quite broad). The problem is NOT the movement restrictions on the turret (i've tried upside - down turrets manually, and the firing arc is right: paralell to the ship to perpindicular to it), it's the simple fact that the AI doesn't know enough to compensate for being upside - down. So it can shoot at something above it, but since the turret is flipped, that's only a fraction of the firing arc it's using, since it's technically aiming down with respect the the turret itself. Hope that's clearer.

Check out the turret's odf. It has limits on how far in each direction it can turn. It must be able to turn down more than turning up, and since you flipped it, you should also flip those values, or use whatever new values you want.

just look at the roof turret, it almost always shoots downward.

I know, but that's not the problem - I can turn it all the way down and away from the ship. Those values must be in relation to the turret itself, not the world. The turret can go down where I want it, but the AI doesn't shoot at anything downward with them.
