Freedom Fighters 2 Announced (YES!)

Post by Raptor522 »

Most of you have at least heard of / tired the 2003 game "Freedom Fighters" on PC, PS2, and Xbox, and I think it's safe to say you probably liked it (if you figured it out :D). As I was browsing Gamespot today, I was looking up games that I have, and noticed a "Freedom Fighters 2 (working title)(PC)" on the list. So far, all they have in there is an article about something, and that the sequel was only mentioned in a "previous presentation", but at least it's coming.

Anyone else excited about this? I wonder what they'll do with it...

Raptor', are you really sure that Freedom Fighters 2 has been announced by Eidos Interactive ?
Indeed, I've not found any track of this video-game on either IO Interactive web-site or Eidos one, and other places seem to consider this "announcement" as a simple "rumour"... :|

As of press time, Eidos had not commented on the Deus Ex and Commandos spin-offs. They also did not weigh in on the Freedom Fighters sequel, which was revealed in another presentation last month. According to that presentation, Eidos will distribute the follow-up to Io Interactive's alternate-history tactical shooter in the first half of its financial year 2006, which would mean the latter part of 2005.

Would you mind giving me the source of the article you've posted in your last message, Raptor' ? Indeed, I'm rather surprised to get so many details from an unknown place, whereas "major" ones (Like IGN, GameDaily, GameSpy, etc...) do not mention similar informations at all...

I got that from the article on Gamespot, if you search for "Freedom Fighters 2". That's the only part of the article it's mentioned in, though, other than in the title.

Indeed, I've not read enough attentively the content of all articles available on GameSpot dealing with Freedom Fighters 2...
For GameToast members who might be interested in having access to it, then I suggest consulting this URL...

Sorry to play god on the topic, but there's been another updated on Gamespot. But it sucks. :(:
GameSpot wrote:In March 2004, a financial report filed by Eidos Interactive indicated that a sequel to Freedom Fighters was in the works. While this thrilled fans of the critically acclaimed tactical shooter at the time, nothing has been heard about the project since, leading many to think it has been put on indefinite hold.

This week, news emerged that casts further doubt over the probabilty of a Freedom Fighters sequel happening any time soon--if at all. The cover story of the just-released August issue of Game Informer reveals that Io Interactive, developer of Freedom Fighters and Hitman: Blood Money, is currently developing an all-new intellectual property.

Titled Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, the new game is being developed for the Xbox 360 and PC. Described as "a third-person action game...with a full co-op play option, intuitive squad tactics, and a hearty online multiplayer component," the game will follow a mercenary and a "psychopath" who come into a large quantity of cash. Presumably, gameplay will involve taking said cash and making a clean getaway. No release date was given.

If Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is now the new focus of Io's efforts, where does that leave the Freedom Fighters sequel? For now, that remains unclear. Attempts to elicit comment from representatives of Eidos Interactive, owner of Io, were unsuccessful as of press time.

FF2 has not been announced. Gamespot often jumps the gun with pages for games; I remember they had Halo 3 listed already on November 10, 2004- as an Xbox game, not a 360 game.

Also, on a personal note, I found Freedom Fighters in bad taste. Reminded me too much of Reagan-era propaganda.

Off-topic : Although Freedom Fighters 2 has not been Officially announced by IO Interactive® / Eidos Interactive®, it is equally way far from having been equally dropped out by their Respective Originators, and the fact this Entertainment Product might be postponed is possibly caused by the recent Acquiring of the Company having developped and released the first Title belonging to the "Freedom Fighters" Series, whose Financial Costs and Requirements should be somewhat attenuated and made profitable thanks to the Proposing of a brand-new Design which is supposed to have much more Success than the Product Raptor' was apparently awaiting for, which does not necessarily means that it won't be completed and made publicly available sooner or later...
