Is this fake? Is this true? I need answers.
This would make every single star wars battlefront II map and mod illegal.

All those articles are using scare tactics to generate buzz. I don't think it's anywhere near as big a deal as they're making it out to be. I think it's going to be okay

No, we're protected under the mod tools EULA.

Yep, this.Marth8880 wrote:No, we're protected under the mod tools EULA.
Also TL;DR on those articles. At least the Gizmodo one.

Re: Could this be the end of Star Wars Battlefront II Moddin
Indeed: as far as Article 13 goes, it stipulates an explicit need for permission to use something that is copyrighted.
The mod tools' EULA granted us that, as do so many other EULAs in other Star Wars games, so as far as mods go, we're fine.
It's more detrimental to fanfics, fanarts, real-world cosplay etc... but modding is safe.

You sure? Non-commercial derivative works tend to have special protections for these kinds of things IIRC.ggctuk wrote:It's more detrimental to fanfics, fanarts, real-world cosplay etc... but modding is safe.

Certain. There's no provision in Article 13 for any kind of fair use.Marth8880 wrote:You sure? Non-commercial derivative works tend to have special protections for these kinds of things IIRC.ggctuk wrote:It's more detrimental to fanfics, fanarts, real-world cosplay etc... but modding is safe.

Not rejected, exactly... it's being sent to the EU Parliament for debate, where MEPs can table much-needed amendments to it.

Looks like they delayed the doom clock to September 10th, perfect timing for when everyone goes back to school.ggctuk wrote:Not rejected, exactly... it's being sent to the EU Parliament for debate, where MEPs can table much-needed amendments to it.
