First semester of college went well, just got home today. 3 A's and a B+, still waiting on my calculus grade. Finals week was stressful but I'm glad it's over and went well.

Rogue One was a pretty cool movie!
I also helped release a trailer for a project I'm working on now. It's helping me keep off the streets: https://youtu.be/Gx_fxHVQk38
Also Rogue One was cool enough that it made me want to install the modtools again. Here's to hoping I can get it to work again

Quality Assurance. It's basically game testing, but much much more. QA analysts tend to work very closely with developers to write test plans and develop strategies to prevent bugs from occurring in the first place.ARCTroopaNate wrote:What does QA stand for??

Re: GOOD things that have happened to you in the past month
Back in April before I was employed at Monolith, I applied for a Gameplay Scripter position at a new studio in Los Angeles called Royal Circus Games. Fast-forwarding to just a few weeks ago, I received a response from the studio saying they were interested in interviewing me for the position, and thus began the interview process. This weekend they offered me the position, and after long, careful consideration, I have realized that this is the right path to move forward with my career in the game industry.
My experience working at Monolith on such an incredibly ambitious and amazing project has been one of the best experiences of my life, and they will forever have my gratitude for choosing me above all others for the role, for helping me get my foot in the door, for providing me with the opportunity to prove myself, and for all of the valuable knowledge that I have gained during my short time there. I am heartbroken to leave my dream studio and everyone there who I’ve grown to love—but as I stated before, my future awaits elsewhere.
At Royal Circus Games, I will be working directly alongside Leslie Benzies (aka the former president of Rockstar North) as well as many other Rockstar veterans on an ambitious new project currently titled EVERYWHERE.
I'm extremely excited and nervous for this new change in my life, since I'll be moving down to Los Angeles for an unknown number of years. It'll be hard to leave my home and friends in the Pacific Northwest, but again, my future awaits.
Best part of all this? The new game is being built in the Lumberyard engine, which uses Lua for its scripting language.

Downside is you have to work in Cryengine. I've heard Lumberyard has much better documentation than out-of-the-box Cryengine, though, so there's that!Marth8880 wrote:Best part of all this? The new game is being built in the Lumberyard engine, which uses Lua for its scripting language.

LOL yep. Lumberyard's Lua API in particular is disgustingly lackluster with its documentation, but it can't be as bad as CryEngine's... riiiiight?Maveritchell wrote:Downside is you have to work in Cryengine. Kinda late because I haven't been on here in like half a year, but I finished my first year of engineering at my university and made the dean's list both semesters

I just got my new computer set up. Much better than my laptop, I can happily say. Will provide system specs in profile soon!

@RSL: Noice! How much did it cost?
As for me, I'm finally all set up at my new job down in LA! I may or may not be living (as a tenant) with a certain Gametoast moderator.

Re: GOOD things that have happened to you in the past month
The friend who built it for me didn't charge me at all, save for shipping & handling ($70-ish). He said it was a little over $400 for the build. Runs better than this laptop, I can certainly say. It definitely works, but I had to do some tinkering because the PCI slot on the motherboard was a bit weird when it came to seating the graphics card, so..it's a tad touchy, but that's fine, I figured it out. Looks and runs great. I need to get a dedicated WiFi card, though. A USB hotspot can only get me so far.Marth8880 wrote:@RSL: Noice! How much did it cost?

Congrats on your living arrangements and your job, once again!
