Re: Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
I've played the beta with my big brother and we have to say the star wars feeling is real!
The sound, the enviroment, all fits perfect. But there are some things that bother us.
Like rotj Luke on hoth, but I think Dice confirmed that heros are customizable too.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
You think? Whenever I play the Endor map in SWBF2, the Rebels have the advantage (in singleplayer, anyway). They capture the Empire's CP in the Ewok village right away for the 4-2 advantage, and it just becomes a slug-fest along the road between that CP and the next one down where the AT-STs and speeder bikes spawn.ggctuk wrote:I agree with what has been said about balance so far, but it's a problem the originals had: the CIS was way too overpowered thanks to the Droideka, and it was too easy to win as the Empire on Hoth and Endor.
I agree with you about Hoth, though. Especially on XL mode. Just get in an AT-AT and park it outside one of the bunkers...match over in record time!
As for Hoth Walker Assault in the new Battlefront: I finally experienced my first victory as the Rebels last night! It came down to the last set of uplinks and was very close, but we did it! Enough rebel players spawned back there right at the beginning of the third stage and secured the uplinks right away to get around 6 Y-wings, and we also had good air support. That combined with a bit of previous damage to the AT-ATs was enough to secure the victory.
I think Walker Assault might be more balanced if:
-The spawns were better. The Rebels spawn so far away from their uplinks...half the time the Empire can beat them to the first set at the beginning of the match. Once the round gets going, both teams can just wander into each others' spawn areas. Even as the Empire I've spawned in the first area with Rebels right in my face.
-The uplinks were activated automatically for the Rebels at the beginning of each stage.
-The deactivation-time for the Empire was higher. A single snowtrooper shouldn't be able to jumpjet into a massive group of rebels and deactivate the uplink in 2 seconds while still firing and taking damage (for anyone who doesn't know, you can fire while activating/deactivating uplinks and escape pods - just like Rush in Battlefield). If it took longer to deactivate the uplinks, the Rebels could at least try to respond when the notice a snowtrooper getting close to the general area.
Not necessarily all of those things in combination...but maybe one or two of them. At least the spawns.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
I think the focus on "blaster only" weapons is hurting them though, since if you chain yourself to just blasters you are extremely limited in what you can do.ANDEWEGET wrote:For someone who played a lot of the recent Battlefield titles... it's nothing like Battlefield at all. They just focused more on blaster weapons instead of the random weapons Pandemic made up (which really destroyed any resemblance of Star Wars in the actual fighting). DICE did a very good job on recreating an authentic Star Wars experience with sound, visuals and feel (of the movement and weapons).
I ran into this problem with my own mods. (all primary weapons in TORfront are blaster based) When it comes to weapon design, blasters typically end up falling into a scale of rate of fire vs damage, where Sniper Rifles are the low end, and the Chaingun is the high end. Sure you can add some varied amounts of accuracy but at the end of the day you end up with a bunch of weapons that are technically different but in terms of play don't feel vary different.

The beta is pretty fun, and I played it last night with a friend. The coop survival was interesting, but the walker mode was really awesome. I really like how they've set up the vehicle and hero stuff, so you have to find the powerups in order to be able to use them. If it was based on points, I'd never get the hero, but somehow I found the powerup a few times each round. I had some major issues with graphics and the game crashing before I could even load it, but I eventually fixed those. I fee that everything so far is really on point.

Really? Personally, I found that it was irritating that being able to play as a hero wasn't skill based. In 4 and a half hours in, I only have found the hero buff twice. I think it worked well for the vehicles and special weapons, though.Noobasaurus wrote:I really like how they've set up the vehicle and hero stuff, so you have to find the powerups in order to be able to use them. What were your attack patterns like? Usually it's hiding on the edges of the battle, and not close to the main fighting.Kingpin wrote:In 4 and a half hours in, I only have found the hero buff twice.

This game is pretty near perfect. It just needs a few tweaks to spawning in Walker Assault, more visible vehicle pickups, and perhaps a better minimap.

Mmmmm. No.
I like the beta so far. I'm having a lot of fun with it. It meets my expectations for a modern Star Wars shooter, and I will be buying it when it comes out.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
This game is amazing. The more I play it, the more it grows on me. I can't wait until the full release when I have all of the weapons, star cards, maps, customization options, maps, and modes at my disposal!
I would really love to see Dice design a smaller scale DLC map that's closer to a traditional Arena FPS map in an urban Corsucant/Bespin theme; just to see how it would play. I think it would fit this game's movement systems and gunplay perfectly.

Another problem; it encourages people to stay away from the battle and focus on playing as a hero as opposed to playing objectives.Noobasaurus wrote:What were your attack patterns like? Re: Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
Actually the heroes spawn all over the place. I have found them right in the center of battle as well as in corner areas like you guys have mentioned.
Hope you all are enjoying the beta as much as myself. 20+ hours combined from Xbox One and PC, but I can add the alpha for another 15 hours. I love this game maybe too much...

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
I wanna say something cos I have been heavy on BF, I think it is, mechanically, spawns and balancing not withstanding. A good game.
But it's just not the game I wanted to play, people said; We don't want Star Wars: Battlefield. But, I kinda did, like not the no-hosting, no-bots, huge learning curve, stuff, but I kinda wanted a gritty thing.
I hate that guns overheat, I hate that they aren't reloaded, if they were reloaded, but with unlimited ammo not clips, if star cards were re-charging abilities that made sense, and power ups were supply creates, comms towers, and generals tables. I'd have no problem with it.
Basically, I don't mind the mechanics, but I hate the gamey presentation. It's still a cool game, and having watched how fun it looks, I might give it a cheeky wee try.
It's a good game, it's just not what I wanted for 10 years.

Just read some news about the price. 130 euro for the game and all dlc.
This could never be that good. This is absolutely too much.
What do you think??

Dude, I was talking about Battlefield that time. I did listen to you the first time.
That's pretty much standard these days. The price of a full game: £60 (e80) Plus half again for DLC.

Yeah, I didn't read that right. NVM.
I think I'll just buy them as they come out. But I'm sure they're worth it.

Nah, looking at it, I think you did, I should have written it better!commanderawesome wrote:Yeah, I didn't read that right. NVM.

They'll be a small saving in that price, yet you might not even want some of the DLC, say it's a starfighter horde mode, and you're not into that, you'll save more by not buying it, not that I'm saying you yourself don't like a horde mode, but you know what I'm getting at, a good deal =/= a good product.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
I see some of your points ARC, such as the pick ups being crates. That would have been great as it wouldn't break the immersion as much. However I want to say something about the cards. Just wait for the full game before really saying if thye have use. There will be many more to pick from, like smoke that breaks locks of turrents and more, flash bangs, homing shots, focused fire for better accuracy, stealth things that change the mini map, torpedos, grenade launchers, and so many more. Just wait on those.
On the note of Battlefield, I agree. My vision when I saw DICE making it made me so happy because I love Battlefield. Whould have been great if it was just like it. I do understand why they didn't do that. for example, many people complain Battlefield is too hard for normal players. Yes there is a learning curve to it, but in response DICE aimed it to a larger plyer base that may not have been used to playing games. In other words the more casual gamer.
Either way I love it, and I respect your opinion. I was a bit of a let down of it not being like Battlefield, but after I learned more from interviews and so on, I saw their passion and reasoning behind their choices and I have grown to apperciate it.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
I'm having serious withdrawals. I went to start it up today when I got home from work and realized once again that it was shut down. It's going to be hard waiting for November to come around!
Halo 5 should help a little bit though!
