New maps and mods are coming out quickly. If you release something (even a beta) please post it here. Be sure to give details in the topic such as Map/Mod name and version
I hate to be a bother, but the mod crashes whenever I try to load either Eden Prime or Virmire (all game modes). I've tried re-installing the mod (and the v1.3 patch) twice, the second time running the application as administrator. Prothean sky-way worked fine however, as do all the stock maps I have tested (which admittedly isn't near all of them). I'm running on Windows 8, using the dvd-rom version of the game. The mod is installed in the correct location. Is anyone else having this issue? I've tried running the maps in both the normal game and the debug.exe, both got me a ctd. Also, there is no loadscreen on Eden Prime (I don't know if this is just how it is, or if it's indicative of something).
Onto the mod itself though, I agree with Mav; I feel as if weapons should do slightly (or a lot) more damage. Same goes for unit movement speed. Other than that it really is an excellent experience, and a true joy to play.
EDIT:
Hidden/Spoiler:
One last niggle - I think you've made the lowest level of investment, mod-wise, that you can make with this concept. Your sides look great! - Really they do, but at its heart this is just a sides mod, which is, by itself, a little vanilla (the notion of a sides mod in general). I'm glad you made a few maps - that's a great start - but the economy of these things works like this: Sides take the greatest level of art development and a ton of the up-front time cost, and if you're going to invest in that, invest a little in expanding the gameplay too. Show me something a little bit new! New sides are a dime a dozen. Even a larger variety of new maps available would help (although this is easily the longest pole in any mod tent), because the great thing about a new map is that it always brings something new, gameplay-wise, to the table.
In this regard I, once again, agree with Mav. I think adding new game modes (attack/defend, VIP, whateveryoucomeupwith, etc.) would add a little "something" to the mod as well. I remember seeing something in the WIP thread about a campaign, and this would honestly be the perfect addition (possibly similar to DT2's campaign, but that isn't wholly neccesary). It's honestly really difficult to come up with any sort of criticism towards this mod...
Has anyone seemed to have trouble getting on the server? Whenever I click it the message comes up saying busy:1,2,3,4etc.... And it never let's me join. Any advice?
Question: What would I need to change to revert the menu screens back to normal? The mod is great, but I greatly prefer the old menus. I've never much liked orange
LEO wrote:Thats just the best mod i've ever played. Thats awesome but you tooked the music from ME
Is that legal?
That's a difficult question to answer, it's a grey area. We paid for the music, we did all that legally. It's basically a thing of "It's 'legal' till EA decides to make a fuss about it." Which goes for the entire mod. I wouldn't be surprised if EA decided to shut us down(wouldn't want us encroaching on their ME3 multiplayer sales), but we're hoping they don't. I don't trust them at all, but maybe they'll surprise me.
Well according to The Nasal Abyss, BioWare says any assets, including sounds and music, from Mass Effect can be used in non-commercial non-profit mods and games.
Congrats on the PC gamer article. As for possible legal issues, you've been working on this for a year. You'd think they would have said something by now - or maybe I'm just naive.
Wow, congrats on #2 top mod on Moddb. Btw, played through most of the levels (Hoth was my favorite) and I have to say; by far one of the best mods I've played.
Just thought I'd stop by and say I resolved the issue (big surprise, it wasn't your mod, haha*). It was an issue with Windows 8 I hadn't encountered prior to this, but I did a classic re-install of everything (game, patches and the like) and it seems to be working well now).
After playing through it a second time I found myself noticing the amount of hits it took to take down a geth less and less, I think it just might take some time to get used to the game play style really. The custom maps are what really stand out though, they are so well polished it's hard to believe at times. Great work.
*As this is the internet, this is sarcasm, I wasn't expecting it to be your mod at all.
