OK, I know I'm late to the party but I finally found my first structure in SMP (an abandoned mine shaft.) I've found at least one diamond, plenty of redstone, and a ton of gold, but all attempts to get at them have ended in sharp pointy death from skeletons. I finally got off after losing my picks AGAIN and being more than a little frustrated at the game.

Haha, that my friend, is what makes it fun. I wish I could go back to that cautious fear of the game.

I actually like abandoned mine shafts more than Strongholds, my first mine shaft was immense, it had 5 levels and opened up into a ravine, and every single hallway had thick supports made of wooden blocks, instead of fences. The supports obscured what was behind them, and crossing an intersection was always a bit scary; I expected to stumble upon half a dozen creepers at every turn.
I have conquered most of it, I'm in the process of turning it into a research lab for my Redstone industrial expansion, I also want to make a mob grinder in the ravine at some point. There's still a lot of very dark and difficult areas to explore, I've sealed them off with iron doors and surrounded them with warning signs, just to remind me how dangerous it is in those dark cramped tunnels.

It's pretty cool.
Oh, abandoned mine shafts are definitely the best. You can go into a cave with nothing and stay down there forever, totally self-sufficient. Wood from supports gets you your crafting bench and tools so you can get stone and coal, the chests down there get you seeds for food (just need a bucket and some water, also found in caves), and the spiderwebs make wool for beds. It's perfect!
I don't want to be a bummer, but I don't like the new sounds, I think they sound too weak, too underwhelming, especially the explosions, before it was like "KABOOM" now it's like "pop". I like the Enderman sounds though, they sound very alien, very... weird, which is good. Blazes sounds are cool too.

Sadly I haven't found a Enderman yet, but I'm still looking!
I personaly love the new sounds they sound more realistic.

Good. I'm actually kind of excited. There's (kind of reasonable) animosity on both sides, and if things finally get out and get figured out and set straight, that'd be great.
