Internet issues

Post by Commander_Fett »

A few yers ago, my parents switched to AT&T U Verse for our internet. since then, I've been having problems with my internet, loss of connectivity, extremely slow, etc. I got halo Reach lately and I can hardly get into any games because it says my internet is too slow. My computer says I have a fast internet connection, and speedtest.lnet says it's good, but I still get 500+ ping when I play online.
It says this is my internet speed:

But whenever I play online on xbox 360 or pc my connection is terrible. (I'm using a wired connection, by the way, wireless is too bad to use anywhere but next to the modem)

I have only .6 upload and my lag usually isn't too bad (rarely more than 200+).

I have ATT Uverse too at one of my homes, although it is the max plan (25/3).

I don't notice any problems with it. Ping times are a little higher than some other connections, but that is a fault of the technology that they use in their connectivity and is not avoidable. Uverse is also highly dependent on your distance from the neighborhood switch box- mine is literally next door, so I get a great connection.

Could you maybe do a traceroute for me? I'm interested in where your problems are mostly occurring.

Go to Start -> Run -> type in cmd -> type in tracert google.com

It will come up with a bunch of information. Let it complete. When it says "Trace complete." right click in the black, press Select All, right click again on the white, then paste it into a spoiler here and post it. You can edit out your username if you want.

Yeah, it looks like your internet is having some small issues, mainly around the point where your connection jumps from your home to the neighborhood box. If you can, try to find out where it is, or at least keep an eye out for it. It will be a large tan box with an ATT sticker on it, probably near the entrance.

If it's actually really close, then I don't know what to tell you... ask a tech to come out. :/ The rest of it looks fine to me.

Everybody I know who has AT&T has also had similar problems, though they live in different neighborhoods. I suppose it could be our area, though since I live in a suburb of the State capital it seems like we would have better support.

Well, I live about five blocks away from their old corporate HQ, so... :P

Regardless, your network seems okay to me. ATT is pretty good in terms of network reliability- they almost never go down completely. If you're interested in attempting to get to the bottom of this, then we can do that, but you may just not be able to 'fix' your problem without ATT support.
