Modern Day Songs in Strings
I found a really unique band that turns modern songs such as-
Through the Fire and the Flames by DragonForce and bands such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Linkin Park.

into-
Orchestral Versions!

Those don't sound very Classical at all but they were good arrangements for string instrumentation nonetheless.

I like this sort of thing, I particularly liked the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I've got the String Quartet Tribute to U2's The Joshua Tree which is really good.
This is another String guartet doing U2's Bad from The Unforgettable Fire:

I've run into this sort of thing before with a lot of other rock bands (particularly metal bands for some reason). At any rate they're very cool.
I think he means Orchestral. Though I can only imagine what Mozart's take would be on heavy metalAQT wrote:Those don't sound very Classical

Re: Modern Day Songs in Strings
If we're nitpicking, "orchestral" requires an orchestra, not a string X-tet. "Classical" as it is literally [musically] defined is "of or relating to music from 1750-1820," but classical as it is colloquially defined is not misused here, because the colloquial understanding of it is basically "anything that's not contemporary in nature."SBF_Dann_Boeing wrote:I think he means Orchestral. That was...interesting. I like orchestral/classical/whatever it is stuff more than lyrical songs, so this may be my new playlist.
It also reminded me of Zelda. No idea why, as Zelda aren't the only games with this type of music.

Re: Modern Day Songs in Strings
It might be the intro movie to Wind Waker that triggered that. The violin there has a very similar play style to this quartet. Either that or you've played Wii Music before....Fingerfood wrote:That was...interesting. I like orchestral/classical/whatever it is stuff more than lyrical songs, so this may be my new playlist.

My brother showed me this a few months ago, and I have to admit they're good. Really good. But, being a percussionist, I prefer music with more energy and more of a heartbeat, be it bass or drums. I listen to some orchestral stuff, such as Star Wars or Pirates or the Caribbean soundtracks, but I think I'll stick to my hard rock, lol.

!! Thanks for posting about this.
I often run into modern rock/metal/etc songs that have a superb melody, but the rock style is not in my taste. Other times, I just don't like the lyrics. But this is some great stuff right here; I love the Fire and Flames, and Poker face covers.
Oh, and I just found their cover of Iron Man
