Are there any sort of safe programs out there that let you trim audio files and convert them to .MP3's?

Personally, I use Sound Recorder (shipped Windows program) to trim my audio files. Switch Sound File Converter is great for converting to multiple formats.

I third that proposition, Audacity is the bomb... Just save frequently I had some crashing issues once, but only once.. And I think I was using the unstable beta...
Anyway, get Audacity, it's free, easy, and plain awesome
