Vancouver Olympics

So, who here has been watching the Olympics lately? I've watched it from the opening ceremonies, though I didn't see the ceremony in it's entirety. I also saw Apolo Ono win his next medal. That was a real surprising race, considering what happened in the last second of it. Thoughts so far on the Olympics?

The opening ceremony was excellant, except the technical glitch that caused only three of the four pillars to rise as expected; leaving a global audience – and the four torchbearers – wondering what exactly was happening.

It's to bad the unfortunate luge accident had to happen.

I've been watching the Olympics as much as I can. Short Track finals were sweet sunday night. I was happy that the Canadians finally got a medal on their home turf (Men's moguls). I'm hoping they'll play the Snowboard cross from earlier today again.

And yes, RIP, Nodar Kumaritashvili. They actually played the whole video of his crash before opening ceremonies...it was scary.

Oh, yes. Considering that they set a world record last night, it looks like their chances of getting the gold are pretty high.

Massive Russian letdown. I wanted to throw something at the TV to be honest. Was there like, maple syrup all over the ice, and by the time the last pairs went up, everyone had wiped it off with their falls?

Well, as far as I know, right now there is no video-game competition in the Olympics. So once you get THAT in the Olympics, then I'll watch.

Anyway talking about Nodar Kumaritashvili I don't see why anyone would want to do a sport as dangerous as Luging. Sliding uncontrollably down ice at 80 mph, I can't imagine a more dangerous thing to do. And they say he was killed on one of the most difficult tracks. Luging on a track like that just spells trouble. I hate to say it but I'm afraid there may be more deaths in future Olympics if this sport continues.

P.S I have no idea what the plural of Luge is so I just guessed it was Luging.

P.S.S It's about time Canada got a gold.

Sliding uncontrollably down ice at 80 mph, I can't imagine a more dangerous thing to do. And they say he was killed on one of the most difficult tracks. Luging on a track like that just spells trouble. I hate to say it but I'm afraid there may be more deaths in future Olympics if this sport continues.

There's only been two deaths in the Olympic luge sport so far as I know, counting this one, so the sport must be safer or the players much more trained than you think.

They do have pads on them now. And this came up at dinner at my house, and I really think there's more to luge than sliding uncontrollably. I assume there's some muscle movement controlling the sled.
