It was in an official announcement I read when my sights were too far out and I was interested in acting in the film, so I had been looking up all sorts of stuff about the film, among it being the split.
EDIT: It's actually easily accessible information, I just found it through google. It was announced by actor Joshua Herdman, who plays either Crabbe or Goyle, and it has since been confirmed.

Well I think that is a good stopping point. But still I think it really comes down to what I said earlier.

Well if you're not a certain percentage of British, then they wouldn't accept you.

I think it's a bit late for that anyways, although I have been opening my scopes recently.

I think separating the movie into two parts is a wise idea as they can now put the whole book into the movie instead of taking out scenes (Ex. The fight scene at the end of the HBP). Looking forward to both parts and I can't wait to see what they do with the 'Battle of Hogwarts'.

Agreed, everything is important. I don't think they really did that great with the fifth movie. They squeezed it into one part and it is a longer book than the Deathly Hallows (but not as important).

You might want to rethink that. Deathly Hallows is nothing more than the conclusion, in essence, made of other parts we already knew. Some pretty important things (characters, subplots) came out of OOTP and reappeared in Deathly Hallows.

Thats true and now that I think about it they really didn't skip over anything that is key in understanding what happens in Deathly Hallows. They mainly just skipped over the unimportant events that were in the book just for the heck of it. But I guess when they take 896 pages and put it in 138 minutes of movie all they really have time for in the movie is key events. Perhaps thats why Order of a Phoenix was such a dark movie.
But since Deathly Hallows is pretty much comprised completely of key events they knew they weren't going to be able to put it all into one part.
Lord Bardar wrote:Hmm I'm not too crazy about it, the last one was a big disappointment.
Quoted for truth. The last movie had almost nothing to do with "The half-BLood Prince". Ergo, this movie will have absolutely nothing to do with the deathly hallows. You guys ever notice that? As the series progressed, the movies had less and less to do with the macguffin from the novels. And similarly, the movies depart even further from the source material as the series goes on.
Warning! Spoilers/Embittered Rant below:
Hidden/Spoiler:
In the Deathly Hallows, Dobby the house-elf, who had a much larger role in the books than in the movies, died tragically, and it pulls on the audience's heartstrings. Harry felt incredibly sad, and the readers sympathized because he lost an important friend. No doubt, this scene will not be present in the movie. I sympathized with Harry in the books, but in the movie I thought he was a complete douchebag. They left out Harry' inheritance from Sirius Black in the last film, for God's sake! What makes anyone think this movie will have any connection to the books aside from setting and characters?
The Deathly Hallows in 'The Deathly Hallows' are more of a key element than the Half-Blood Prince in 'The Half-Blood Prince'. They can't possibly make Part 2 (which is no doubt when the concept of the Deathly Hallows comes in) without making it all about finding and understanding the Deathly Hallows.

But since they don't play that big of a part in the first half, it's going to suffer from half-blood prince syndrome. And the first half should be at least three hours long. Why? They need that time to patch up some major plot holes. If a plot hole is unresolved, it will become even bigger in the second film. And as far as plot holes go, Half-Blood Prince looked like swiss cheese.
Yeah, the first half will be needing a lot of explanations. Like
Hidden/Spoiler:
Fudge out, Scrimgeour in.
The rebuilding of the Burrow. Actually scratch that, I've just figured out the solution they'll most likely do. Since Harry was moved to Tonks' parents from the Dursleys (who will actually be in the films once again!), they will probably make everyone meet there instead of the Burrow, and thus the wedding will commence there. THEN, Scrimgeour will be killed and the wedding interrupted, etc.
Also, the use of No. 13, Grimmauld Place (Sirius' house which was left to Harry in the will, explained by Dumbledore in HBP WHICH WAS LEFT OUT, so they'll have to probably have Molly Weasley or Tonks explain that), the redemption of Kreacher (who was in OOTP for like a second), this first part is gonna be so messed up.
Part 2 will be the actual book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows put into film format lol.
Oh yeah, Dumbledore's funeral. I forgot they left it out of HBP as well, gonna need to throw that in as well.
Horcruxes, too.
That's about it, for now. Basically, I have a feeling that DH1 will suck. It's gonna be a real mess of things.

At least you understand. Half the idiots I know in real life actaully try to justify this blasphemy as "creative liberties".

Lets not be to negative, it may turn out there is a miracle and DH1 turns out okay. Anyway are you saying you think DH2 won't be a "mess of things"?

DH1 would probably be above average at best. At worst, it would be below average. Meaning it will probably be mediocre, as you the best and worse case scenarios are not likely to happen. DH2 would be a win, with the final battle and all.
Ping wrote:DH2 would be a win, with the final battle and all.
Just because the final battle will be in part two doesn't mean it's not impossible to mess it up. There going to have to try not to cut to much from it and still fit part two into a reasonable movie time.
