Basic HTML question
Alright on a different forum I learned about basic html and how to create my own html page out of NotePad, and now I have some more questions.
1. How do I get my pages on the Internet?
2. How do I make a backround for the page?

Re: Basic HTML question
You'd need a host site to get it on the internet, but I've never worked with HTML so I'm unable to answer further than that.

Re: Basic HTML question
Is there no way to get a site up without some other site actually hosting it for me? Thats the reason I got into to html...
I thought making my own html would save me from having to pay for stuff or having a domain name like http://www.freewebs.com/thesiteimadetha ... byfreewebs.

Re: Basic HTML question
I'm currently setting up a website using a host called AokHost. Seems to work wonderfully. It's free and they give you 5GB of storage space and 30GB of bandwidth. Support PHP and gives you five MySQL databases.

But do they make you include their name inside your site address? www.aokhost.com/mysite.?

Re: Basic HTML question
Domain names are not free. Hosting is not (usually) free.redgroupclan wrote:Then all hope is lost -_-|||
These things take up server space and basically are a hassle to the person hosting them, so the only free domain names you may find are like http://www.uni.cc and I think theres an "ath.cx" one too.
In those cases, your website would be at "www.mysite.uni.cc" or "www.mysite.ath.cx".
Anyways, I would recommend renting a server. I am currently paying $10/month, which only comes to $100/year. In the long run, it's hardly any. You can easily support that even if you have a lame job like a paper route

You can get even cheaper ones too, like $5/month.

Re: Basic HTML question
So you cant just go and host your own website from nowhere....dang...So then every site I see on the Internet is paying something...?
And how do the hosting sites first get up?

Re: Basic HTML question
Well, if you want, you could buy a server.
A server is basically a computer connected to the internet 24/7.
But if you don't know anything about websites, I'd suggest you learn a bit more about them before trying this.

Re: Basic HTML question
There are alot of tutorials online for html help just google html. As far as hosting yea you could get a server for like $200 a month ..maybe less if its got just the basics. The real cost of web anything isnt the hardrive space its the bandwdth , still html and php only site that hosts no files still gets over 100 gigs of traffic, most hosts would charge a pile of money for that kind of access and at these speed. look around and make sure you read before you buy. everywhere.

Re: Basic HTML question
I know this Isn't exactly what you're looking for but I think it's your best bet (it's free).
It's called Webon. It gives you a subdomain
(i.e. cool.redgroupclan.com) and it is ad free (yeah no ads). It also has a great variety of templates etc.
The only drawback that I found was that you can't use the <script> tags in your custom html which means no fancy flash menus etc. unless you are a premium member

Re: Basic HTML question
You can always host a web page off your own internet connection. Thats what I do. I use the Apache2 web server software. However, if you have a dynamic IP address, then you would need to use the free service DynDNS to give your site a name.
Many ISPs give their users a web page. Check and see if you already have one.

Re: Basic HTML question
No idea what you're talking about
But do any of the hosting websites listed before get their users websites on Google?

Re: Basic HTML question
You shouldn't have to worry about if your site is listed on google or not.
Because you can get it in there crawler for free. GO HERE
But if you want serious traffic I would make a safe bet that google adwords is about
the best way.
