Trojan Virus unremovable
So there was something on my start bar that said my comp had spyware. I accidentally clicked on it, and it installed XP antispyware. This is a trojan virus, and I can't remove, not even with McAfee or add/remove programs! help!

Try System Restore. You can always google the name of the trojan name, chances are, there are other people who have encountered this problem and have successfully fixed it.

Uhh, my friend has two different versions of it (don't even know if that's possible, but that's what spysweeper says), we hae tried everything, with no fix. If you find a good solution, please post it.

If you cant find a real solution online , like editing your registry to remove that trojan, i would personally would just save any vital files you want to cd ro dvd and reformat the hd. Reinstall windblows.
If you goto google and use quote though there has got to be other people with the same issue as you, sites that popup trojans dont just get 1 person

Um. this happened to me before, but I don't remember how I got rid of it.. I still have traces of it (e.g. can't get to C:/ from My Computer, can't open Control Panel, can't get on Computer Admin acc, etc.)

This site has some instructions for removing it. I can't attest to it's trustworthiness though.

Google HijackThis -- it's basically a logging program that you can then post on a number of forums (also found on google) to help you get rid of really pesky viruses. Those guys can tell you the steps you need (and the software) to kill it.

You can't remember how you got rid of it because you never did.PhantoM wrote:...I don't remember how I got rid of it.. I still have traces of it (e.g. can't get to C:/ from My Computer, can't open Control Panel, can't get on Computer Admin acc, etc.)

Re: Trojan Virus unremovable
If the virus isn't that..sophisticated (it really depends on the type), you may be able to remove it manually. If you can't do that, or don't feel confident in trying, then go with finding a program that can. As -_- said, often someone's already had it and there's a fix of some sort available, sometimes in the form of a small program.
Also, I'd recommend downloading Spybot Search & Destroy. It has quite a few features, works fairly well at detecting quite a few nasty things that like to sneak into your system, and does a decent job at disposal. It does very well for a free app.
As for it being in your start bar (eh?), if I'm interpreting your words correctly, it appears that it was already installed via a popup message. They can be made to look like windows messages. Never, never, NEVER trust any sort of popup message that says a virus was detected on your computer unless you know for a fact that message is related to anti-virus software already installed on your system. In fact, you're better off not clicking popups at all, unless you know for sure what you're clicking on is trustworthy.

Re: Trojan Virus unremovable
Well, most of it's gone. When I had it, just about all I could do was watch the bazillion Internet Explorers open and move my mouse around. Oh, and I had this cute litte addon on my clock display that said VIRUS ALERT![RDH]Zerted wrote:You can't remember how you got rid of it because you never did.PhantoM wrote:...I don't remember how I got rid of it.. Re: Trojan Virus unremovable
You can restore the system to an earlier time without being in Windows. Just stick your Windows XP / Vista disc in the drive (it can be a regular install disc, or some sort of recovery disc that came with the computer) and reboot the machine. It will boot from the disc and give you the option to use system restore.
