SWBF Conversion Pack Media

Post by Maveritchell »

Since we're coming up on the final release of the Conversion Pack, I wanted to make sure the Pack got a proper send-off. Tean had mentioned before adding a page to Wookieepedia (the Star Wars wiki), since TSLRP had one. I perused over their page (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/TSLRP), and if you look, you'll notice they have a good amount of media: a project logo/banner, a team logo, several trailers, and at least a couple expository screenshots.

I was hoping we could put together something similar for the Conversion Pack, to get the word out over not just Wookieepedia, but Youtube, ModDB, SWBFFiles... wherever. If we (as a community) can start putting out some really nice stuff, I think we could really get people amped for what is no doubt the best and biggest mod for SWBF2.

So what is there to do? Anything goes, really. High-quality screenshots (featuring accurate/up-to-date stuff), trailers (same criteria), logos, a page at Wookieepedia, etc. Whatever seems appropriate for quality advertisement.

I'll go ahead and post some of the stuff I've done so far, as you guys create content, feel free to post it here so that we can see it and judge it as a community.

As you can see, image generation is not my forte, but it's kind've what we're going for.

That's a really nice banner Mav'. The only woes I can point out is the size, and the "blurryness" used for conversion pack.

The size is just there for sake of posting it at full resolution; ideally it'd be a lot smaller. I.e.

The v1.3 patch supports map preview videos. Every pack map can have a short video, and you could string these all together to get a good overview of the pack, then post it online somewhere.

You misunderstood me Mav'. What I meant was that height of the banner might be too much, and it would look better in a 3:2 w/h ratio compared to a 1.5:1 one.

You mean 3:1, right? Because 3:2 is the same thing as 1.5:1.

I like the idea, but how are we going to make media without actually having played the new release, such as videos?

Other than bugfixes, visually there shouldn't be a lot different between 1.9 or 1.84 and the new build. The only big changes are KotOR (for which I've already made a big preview video) and I guess space Endor, which is available to play through one of its modes.

Well, since BFX is going to be in the Convo Pack new release, I can take a look into filming some of that.

BFX isn't included in the new Convo Pack release, it's supported. It's still a separate download.

Look through the topics in this forum and come up with something yourself. The point to you putting it together is not just so you can do the formatting for the site and have everyone else come up with the material, it's also to gather that material and put together a quality article. Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect, others can always edit it.

Here are a couple new ideas I'm trying for screenshots, they're called "stereoscopes." These work on a similar principle as 3-D movies, except to focus the image in 3-D, instead of wearing glasses, you need to cross your eyes and focus on the third image that "develops" in the center:

If you're having trouble viewing them, here's a tutorial for how to view cross-eye stereoscopes:
