Thinkin' of Getting a Laptop...

Post by Dohnutt »

... and I've been looking on TigerDirect.ca (because it's Canadian and I trust it) and I found two that I might get:

Acer Aspire 6920-6610
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... &body=MAIN

HP Pavilion dv9920us
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... CatId=1897

I don't know too much about computers, but I'm pretty sure the first one seems like a better deal.
So could you review over the two products and tell me what you'd get? (Or if you happen to see an even better deal...) I'm not planning on spending over $1400 (even that's quite a bit) but I'd like a laptop that can basically run most games. Obviously, I won't be running Crysis or stuff like that on it, but basic games. I'm not really a big gamer, but I do like some games - Hopefully Half Life 2, things like that.

Thanks guys - if you wanna know more information about what I'd like, I'll try to do my best and tell you :P

If I were to get another laptop and choose between the two, I'd buy the Acer.

But all in all, I'd build a desktop.

I'd buy tha Acer too. I need me one of those fingerprint scanners. :P

But seriously. the Acer's a better buy for your money. And with 4 GB of RAM... man. I'm scared. :runaway:

OK - I don't know much about processors and stuff, so correct me if I'm wrong. The Acer's processor (1.83GHz) isn't as good as the HP's processor(2.0GHz). Plus, the Acer processor is Intel which apparently (according to a friend) is worse than AMD (which the HP has).
I definitely want a computer with 4 gigs of RAM, 'cuz thats just sweet :D and probably over 200GB of Hard Drive space.

Thanks :)

Oh and btw @Karnage - With RR and all, I need portability basically. None of the RR staff has a good working laptop so we can never DJ when we're at a friends house or something unless they've got a computer with all the hookups :P
Yeah, anyways, thanks again guys :)

Go for the Acer. Three people in my family (including myself) use Acers, and we've never had problems with them. ;)

If you can really spend up to $1400
Try this Alienware laptop- http://www.alienware.com/products/area- ... KU-DEFAULT
Otherwise, go for the Acer, It has almost all the same specs as the HP except the processor is by Intel

Alienware pwns everything. They look and run great, but they have a price tag to match. If you can afford one get an Alienware...
Otherwise, I'd go for the Acer.

Not getting Alienware :P
I can spend up to $1400, but I don't really want to ;)
It'll probably reach close to there with the tax anyways, so... :P

So you've basically got me sold on the Acer, except for one thing:
Won't the slower processor speed bog down the whole computer?

It's dual core, so it's actually rated as 3.6 GHz. ;)

The AMD processor is also dual core and faster than the Intel one..

Both processors are fine. My brother has a laptop with that Intel processor and I have one with the AMD, and they're both really fast. I'd be fine with either one.

Also, the Acer's processor has a better L2 cache than the HP's.
