Alderaan: The City

Post by Galactic_Marine »

Ok, I'm just in the modeling stage right now...and I have some models, and I want them critiqued. This is on Aldera, the city. I am open to absolutely any suggestions you have:

Based off these images:

Alright, screenies:

Please tell me what you think. Oh yeah, and later I'll add the artificial lake and bridge

PS: A storyline would be great. The idea is that the republic starts in a building and fights there way out of Aldera. Can somebody give me a background?

RE: Alderaan: The City -should these models be put in game?

Post by Bac-Talan »

Ah, thank God. Finally a real Alderaan map. (Not that there haven't been some good ones, but this is the only one so far that looks remotely like the city)
Looks great to me.
Is that XSI? because if it is, those models are going to be HUGE in game. (Something about 1 grid square = 1-2 people in game? Something like that)

It's good to have a person who makes new models, but some of the textures look repetitive, try adding more of the variation you see in the source pics.

well, the models are supposed to be huge...I guess I overestimated a little...but to the right you actually see the smaller building cause its like the outskirts, and to the left you see the metropollis. I get what you mean by repetitive, maybe I'll make some windows longer or shorter...

Other way around, Bac-Talan. 2 squares makesone people. Still very big.

Awesome job!
There's nothing wrong with using large models, it'll be fine.
Those new models are great, and if you need someone to export them, you know who to contact.

'these models are great, although we didn't need urgently, for we had enough cloud city props. But after all, more variety is always great.
As to the story: a undercover group of clone commandoes has to fight their way to the spaceport through the police forces alarmed after the assassination of the CIS ambassdor. - or: after the battle of alderaan, a squad of clone has been sent out check whether there're still CIS forces hiding. Having discovered them, they are forced to retreat.

Awesome models. They should make for a really great Alderaan map. I've already made quite a few Alderaan maps, but since I can't model for crap, I had to settle with some reskinned Bespin buildings. They worked fairly well, but definitely not as good as these. Really cool models, man. Makes me wish I had them at my disposal when I was making my map. Let me know if you need help with anything. I can send you my custom units I used in my Alderaan map, if you'd like.

Models look good. Just make the texture a bit less boring.

Ok, I made the models slight less boring, but, to tell you the truth, not by too much...and currently waiting for Ace to export the models

I'll assume the models are good to go, then! ...oh yeah, would somebody be kind enough to perhaps give me a bail organa skin...I've tried to get it a million times, but I guess I'm just not a skinner...

Maul, what's wrong with the hallways? I'll fix them, but you need to be a little more specific about what you want...

They don't stand out well enough. You can't tell when there's a door or another wall. Maybe adding shadows would fix it.
