W.I.P Empire: Black Operations

Premise of this map is to try to bring to the community another aspect of the Star Wars universe, an aspect rarely touched. I hope to bring the excitment of the black operations division that The Empire had during the Galatic Rebellion.

This will be a series of maps, they will come in two flavors. A single player map with objectives similar to the shipped campaign missions. And a vanllia multiplayer version. This first map will take place on a yet unnamed planet. The Empires elite squads of BlackHole Troopers, Shadow Troopers and Storm Commandos willl be sent in covertly to take and hold key areas in a city, disableing turret mainframes and finely destroying a Waste processing Facility in preparation of a final invasion by modified Empire forces.

Included new Variations of Empire Troopers:
Storm Commando:
"While standard stormtrooper operations are broad in scope, storm commandos are specifically trained for anti-Rebel operations, siege-breaking, extractions and sabotage."*

Blackhole Stormtroopers:
"The armor modification had practical benefits as well. The stygian-triprismatic polymer afforded the stormtroopers increased sensor-stealth."*

Shadow Troopers:
"They operate covertly, yet still in armor, posing as mercenaries of bounty hunters to slip quietly in and out of locations while quietly gathering intelligence."*

Map will feature several ways to finish objective making it a replayable mission. I will also see how objective based maps work with multiplayer, I might decide to allow some sort of capture and hold strategy for multiplayer. As map is still young, ideas and suggestions are always appreciated. Please try to keep spam down to a minimum.

Love the Idea, but The mix of different Stealth units sounds a bit weird. And of course, A nice dark setting for some stealthy work.. :)

This looks nice! Shadows, night-look, the works. As for the single player mission, are you going to try and get it to behave more like a tactical shooter in nature?

Man I would love to, but you know as well as I do how "single minded" the AI is. The best I could hope for is define the AI goals and HOPE they respond the way it is intented. I wish there was a way to make the player invisible to the AI for periods of time.

Archer has lead me to a great site dealing with AIVIS regions, so the "stealthy" feel this map is trying to convey might, and I stree might, be possible with the right amount of AI planning and Use of AI vis regions, patrol paths and such. It's gonna take some time, but it'll be worth it I'm feeling. I wont release it( except for closed alpha and beta testing) till it's perfect.

this looks good, and it seems like it will be a little RC feeling in it, if it wouldnt have been for the fact that AI always see you...

I wish there was a way to make the player invisible to the AI for periods of time.
Some weapons can do that, such as the Bothan's active camo, and the holoshroud seen in Majin Revan's maps. If they are primary weapons, though, you have to drop them to ready another wepon to fire; I'm not sure how they behave as secondary weapons.

Any map that looks as good as this one is worth downloading in my book. Great job! I'm not sure if you've done this or not, but the hills need to be blended, that way they look so much better.

Hm, this looks really cool! I've got an idea that might just work for the AI not being able to see well thing :P Isn't there a smoke grenade made, and it's dense and stuff so that the AI won't just shoot through it? Would it be possible to do that, except make it less dense, and stuff?

Looks like an interesting map. But where's this quote about the imperial shadow trooper from ? The imp. shadow troopers I found on Wikipedia were light-saber wielding dark-jedi-hybrids.

Anyway, I'm looking forward for this map.
