Regarding my last thread (help for others with same problem)
In my last thread, I had talked about getting hit with a trojan. Well, I just got another one, and my profile was labeled as "Corrupt" again, then I had to click "OK" twice. Now, last time my computer had been on all day after changing things. I moved everything to the new profile, then a thunderstorm knocked out my power. When it came back on, the old version of it came back with nothing on it (the one time I should have copied, I cut+pasted everthing ). The old files on the new profile had been wiped from memory, but the only thing not touched (my firefox) remained (You can just imagine what I was saying ) When this occured today, I figured out how to fix it.
1) When the corrupt message appears, click OK twice.
2) You log on to see a default backround, your current browser, and an empty recycle bin
3) Once the main tasks (Virusscan, xfire, etc.) have finished, turn off your computer (just turn it off, don't do it the normal way <- very important)
4) When you turn it back on, go onto your profile
5) The "corrupt" message won't appear, and your old profile is back (yay )
Now I'm going to get a better Firewall, one better than my current one. I don't like it when this happens, it's very very annoying.

2 things.
1. shell out 8$ for a power surge with battery backup of say 1-8 minutes. then your pc wil never be a victim of nature.
2. reformat your h/d otherwise whatever is in there could still be lurking. If you had a trojan from me (in my bad evil days) it would make copies of itself in 500+ of your files even files unrelated to your xp accounts/users. Long story short it sounds like the bad guy is still in your harddrive.

I already have a new computer on the way, and I already have plans to make it more anything-proof than Fort Knox (I'm not going to mention what I'm going to do, Incase there's any weird people out there who just read random message boards waiting for people to post their Firewalls/Viruscans) My second viruscan seems to have the stupid thing frozen wherever it was attacking, so right now I have the pleasure of deleteing them. All 975 of them  . My dad has removed all financial records and recreated them on the old Windows, so I don't have to worry about that. Thanks for the heads up, this could have been much worse.guru wrote:2 things.

Wow, 975? What sites have you been visiting dude? Stay away from the chinese sex slave sites, they have more viruses than... I can't think of anything. j/k.
Just a heads up, scan everything xer'd to the old windows too just in case if you haven't already. In my friend's day, he imbedded them in files like that just to tick them off. (What guru did though was just wrong. Remind me never to piss you off, guru. )

It was my dad last Sunday, he opened a fake E-mail. It only had one in it, and I apparently didn't delete it good enough. The things been copying itself all week. Any readers of my xfire status earlier know that I killed them all with my "Chaingun o' Doom"ShadowHawk wrote:Wow, 975? What sites have you been visiting dude? I mentioned that nothing was transfered to that computer.I know who it was now, too. He was bragging about it on a Forum I used to visit, and I explained to him what I would do to him if he did it again in simple math:ShadowHawk wrote:Just a heads up, scan everything xer'd to the old windows too just in case if you haven't already. Off-topic : It apparently seems I am not the only Human Being looking upon both the Revenge and the Resentment as being certainly the Character Traits inherent to those belonging to the exact same Species as mine being the most appreciable, but now you have talked about your current Need to get your hands down on a brand-new Security Solution, may I suggest purchasing as fastly as possible two of the Dedicated Softwares I have never ceased preferring towards all others being available on most of the Specialized Stores you can frequent, and which have progressively become greatly-considered through the following Labels : ESET® NOD32 Antivirus Software, additionally to Agnitum® Outpost Firewall PRO. Above all, in case you would be tempted to share References associated to comparable Products you might have particularly enjoyed within the past Months, then do not hesitate proceeding the exact same way as I...

There were still some left, but not for long. I've now, in my own words, pwned this virus. I deleted all of them, and found where the main one was hiding. Apparently the jerk I mentioned didn't know I haven't used IE in 4 years, because that's where it was sent. I deleted all traces of it, removed IE, and now have all my anti-viruses on high alert. As I said to Epena earlier, this virus can come back to "life" more than Emporer Palpatine, so I'm not taking any chances. In case it does return, the instant it decides to move, it's going to get a nice little surprise  .
Thanks everyone, and Leviathan, I did what you said and downloaded the two antiviruses, they do work better than my old ones.

One thing I would suggest is using Tomcoyote.com. You can download a program called HijackThis which tells you every single thing running on your computer, good and bad. And The sweet thing about this software is that it can shut it down for good. The only problem is that if you go around shutting off stuff willy nilly chances are that youll hose your compy for good. But the guys at tomcoyote.com really know their stuff, they helped me dechipher all the crap on my old computer with the help of HJT and its running nice and happy now. These guys will take you through all the steps involved in fixing your compy after taking a look at your HJT log unlike conventional antivirus software this is almost guaranteed to get everything off of your compy if you follow through with all the steps. I highly suggest doing this if you're serious about gettibng the crap off your compy.
Whatever you do, dont delay in getting your computer fixed cuz mine started out kinda like yours, i got rid of the viruses for a little while but never completely. Finally I just gave up trying to get rid of them for a while thinking that I could live with the viruses. One day I went to start up my compy and windows didnt get past the login page, thats when I knew i was hosed. The guys at tomcoyote helped me fix my login problem and then my virus problem. When it was all said and done I had like 2000 viruses on my compy. All from one bad little .exe file, that I accidently clicked on when it popped up. Moral of thge story, dont give viruses a chance to fester on your HD cuz youll regret it.
I now have my new 1600$ computer locked up tighter than an A-hole with highest firewall settings, no cookies, no unauthorized inbound connections, no unauthorized outbound, and a registry monitor that detects any changes. Ill be darned if I let my gaming beast be destroyed by some punk with a malicious code.

A good firewall type program would be Peer Guardian 2. It acts as a filter/firewall. You can monitor incoming traffic and allow/deny access to whatever you please. By default, many options (i.p.'s) are automatically blocked.
By not scanning all sectors for viruses, and/or by simply "deleting" files, and not shredding them instead.Yodasoda saidCommander Fusion wrote

how can you not delete something good enough?

@YodaSoda Do a scan on your computer and delete all the bad crap it finds. Then do the same scan again and if you have bad viruses or trojans youll find that alot of the crap you deleted is there again. Thats how many viruses work. Multiple copies of themselves ensures that its very hard to wipe them completely off your system. If even one copy remains it can copy itself back into its working directory and get right back to work messing up ur compy, stealing your data, identity, ect... THAT is how you can delete a virus without actually deleting it. ;D

I already have enough Firewalls, guys. At least five on high alert. My uncle is a tech support person (aren't I lucky) and he's going to help me check for any remains tomorrow, but I'm 99% positive i've deleted it all. Just leave this open incase someone gets a virus in the allowed time limit for posting in this thread. Thanks.

Off-topic : From now on, if I were you, I would avoid keeping that many Firewall Softwares active and installed onto my Personal Computer, since this sort of Processes is mostly way far from making the concerned Machine even more protected against the multiple Threats spread and scattered on the whole Web, and that's why I would only advise you to get rid off a few ones in case you would be indeed willing not to receive additional Trojan Horses and comparable Items within the Months to come. Obviously, feel free not to take this smart and recommended Advice into account, but be sure you could face way more troubles and Virtual Attacks by remaining apparently too much isolated than by taking advantage out of only one Prevention Solution being as much accurately set up and fully-functional as demanded nowadays, and if the third-party person you have referred to through your precedent reply is that qualified, then be sure I won't be the unique person protesting that similar Processes are not needed and effective at all...
