I was thinking of picking up X-Wing Alliance because of all the mods I've seen for it, but is it any good? The demo was bugged so I couldn't tell from that... . Does anybody have it and can give me their personal opinion?
Thanks.

I have it. I really like it. If you have PS2 style controller, you'll be set. It does require some sort of joystick, though.

While it looks a bit old now, you can get some nice graphical upgrades for it. The game itself is great. Not your average StarWars space sim, since the controls are more complex, allowing you to fully control power to the ships sheilds, lasers and weapons, not to mention turrets and other stuff.
Its got a good storyline too. Since its so cheap nowerdays, its definately worth picking up.
NB: I think you have to have a joystick or some sort of gamepad to play it. I'm 95% sure you cant player it with only keyboard and mouse.

depends what your looking for. I've seen them as low as 20, but those were very basic.

I think I'll het one of the cheap ones; you don't need a complex one for XWA do you?

Yep. This is a good game, i have it and i like it quite a lot. But as Teancum said it's better with a joystick.

Nah, I use keyboard commands rather than applying them to joystick mostly.
Having ove with a trigger, and a couple of extra buttons for missiles and anything is useful. The speed guage might help too. POV hat isn't necessary.

Alliance is awsome because it allows you customize your own battles! Ever wanted to fly against a Super Star Destroyer? You can do that, with almost any number of ships fighting with or against you. I second Teancum's recommendation about the PS2 style controller if a regular joystick is to exspensive. Check out the Darksaber ship pack mod if you get chance.

Yes, it's a great game. The "campaign" mode is fun. Online works good too, but i doubt you would see anyone online...

Ya, it's like playing Jedi Knight. You'd need to hook up with guys from xwaupgrade.com and put them in your messenger.
BTW, if you want to play Jedi Knight online (since I'm thinking about it), hook up with folks from

There is no online server type system or any online support besides IP at all. IT used to be on zone which for some reason dropped support. It may eventually get on xfire and I suggest you go and answer polls about it in the Xfire games forum. Although, just post on the
XWAUP forum and you can schedule a game and ask others to join. Also, you may find people using the custom match making progam for xvt/xwa. There is also an
xfire name sharing thread for you to add people with the game, and chat to set matches up.
