Today I bought F.E.A.R .

1st opinion is that the game is GREAT. A hybrid of HalfLife 2 and Doom 3 . It feels and looks alot like HL2 which is merged well with the creepyness of Doom 3 .

So far I prefer it over both above games since I found that they missed each others strengths (Doom 3 missed playability and HL2 never really spooked me or felt like my life was in danger ...this is F.E.A.R.s biggest strength )

The reason for this fear of being killed (excuse the pun ) is the enemy AI ! It is by far the greatest AI acheivment Iv seen in a game!! they flank you , sneak up on you ,poke their gun aimlessly round a corner when they get desperate, issue each other commands .... it goes on.

You find yourself backing away from fights cos the AI actually seem like real players. Theres often multiple routes to some rooms and the AI will use these routes to flank you and sneak up on you and gunbutt you in the Diet Dr. Pepper LOL . BRILLIANT .


I havent really mentioned the paranormal activities .... it is very Ringu/Ring-esque . This is great for me cos these are the only types of horror that kinda freak me out in movies etc... as you can imagine in a game with such great GFX and Audio it is even more freaky . who isnt afraid of a little girl that can boil your blood out of you just by lookin at you!!

Anyway Im off to face my FEAR.

Sounds awesome Bandu, my friend was going to get this game, but then decided not to.

I tried the demo, and it ran awfully on my laptop... probabaly because I kicked the settings way too high, but for some reason HL2 on all the highest graphical settings is smooth! It certainly got me creeped with that little girl appearancing and transforming the levels before your very eyes, blood dripping from the ceiling, your nemesis appearing before your very eyes only to disintegrate ere you can even get a shot on him.

Looks to be an intriguing experiance, but I dont know if its really for me.

i played the MP and SP demo, multiplay felt just like any map on hl2 was slightly empty servers, those who came on either totally noob sucked or were like invisible gods that you never saw and tey pwned you. While on the other hand SP was amazing. The ai was all over me, room were turning from scary white hallways into gore infested blood pools that turned me upside down and tweaked the sound out. Meanwhile enemies are shooting at me while im running from some evil satan girl. TOo amazing!

I would buy this game if i wasnt currently knee deep in :
everquest ( level 70 necromancer )
Battlefront 2 ( trying to mod this beeyatch)
the movies game (made a nice 10 minute sci fi)
dungeon siege 2 (modding with new mod tools -slow moving)
stronghold crusader (no matter what games come out I always go back to this)
age of empires 3 (i am still playing the demo over and over and.....)

and....there are about 5 new great games coming out.... i need more game time! hehe.

Civilisation 4, and X3-Reunion, are on my christmas list!

F.E.A.R. is boss, I love the bullet-time combat. The multiplayer is addictive, too!

god, when i play the demo it lagged like a dog. i just got a few beefy updates and i would buy this game but it scares the crap out of me. so i geting quake4

I don't find Doom 3 creepy, it's more of an action game. FEAR is realy creepy though.

I find them very similar in the creepyness stakes. Stuff like weird noises and morphing of the rooms into blood pools etc etc.

OMG there was a bit last night where I was plesently walkin to a ladder to get down to a lower level. I pressed the action button to use the ladder and as the action swiveled me around guess who was suddenly right in front of me yep ,that little girl!!!! it scared the crap out of me!

Im now on level 6 and its probably the best FPS iv played since Half Life 1.

haha...i was playin that part when i had a friend over...i was talkin to him and i looked at my screen and there she was...i swear i jumped like 4' outa my chair... then you get to the bottom and Fettel is there and then not...and i jumped again

definatly the best FPS i've EVER played

just wait till you get to elivators... i remember one time where i was goin up an elivator...i was standin near the button then the lights flicker..and the little girl was standin by the controls one sec..then the next sec not

i could not play that game at night... i REFUSED to... (shh...i get a bit paranoid and my mind runs away with itself)

What? A game creeps you out, so instead you buy Quake 4? I have both, and Quake 4 seriously makes you jump every ten seconds.

Darkrain , I was in that elevator last night ! it also scared me crapless! . I was furiously pressing my flashlight key but it wouldnt work aaaarrrrgggghhhh

This is definitly a well made game, more creepy then most horror movies. Of couse games can creep you out Tau. I was creeped out by some parts of the Ravenholm level in HL2, defenitly a good game.

This game looks and sounds so amazing!! I want it!!!!

Just finished FEAR. Its a fantastic game. Best FPS iv ever played.

The story is great tho I am a little confused by the ending.

The good news is theres likely to be a FEAR 2

Yup id say hl2 & fear top my OMFG list for scary and fun. Makes you want to play em!
For people tired of button mashing I also rec. AoEmpires 3 and any of the 50 MMO available.

Anyone modding anything decent for fear yet? IM still waiting for sat to make some nice models for HL2 , hehe. THere is no good Star Wars Mods for HL2. they all died out.

Check the HL2 forums Guru! Me and a friend are making a mod (most possibly an SW mod) for HL2 and we need a modeler.

I know what you mean about hooked. I was a bit slow on getting it but since then haven't looked back. It has a pretty decent SDK as well which is making sure the modders are kept amused.
