Is Garry's Mod Worth My 10 Bucks?

I bought Portal a few days ago, and I've nearly got it beaten. I know that there's an awful lot of mods for Source, but I was wondering what you guys think about Garry's Mod. I've heard it's a lot of fun to toy around with, but I'm really debating whether or not to spend an extra 10 dollars on it. Tell me what you think (you don't have to vote, but it would help satisfy my laziness.

)

It may be worth your $10, but there are lots of mods probably worth $10 that you can get for free. Browse around, you can find plenty to occupy your time if you're looking into Source mods.

Garry's Mod is definitely worth your $10. You can do practically anything in it.
BUT, I think you need Half-Life 2 to even get it working, and if not, you will want it for a lot more content. Portal probably has the least amount of content, and you probably won't be able to do much without Half-Life 2.

That's unfortunate...
To play other source mods, do you just need the Source SDK? Or is Half-Life 2 needed there, too?

If you look up the mod on the Steam website, it should say what games are required to run it.
Most source mods only need one Source Engine game, but some mods require HL2, Portal, etc.
I know Portal Prelude requires Portal.

Defiantly. I just finished making a cool base type thing.
The game is epic. So cool.

I have a semi-related question that doesn't quite merit a new thread. If I can find a download, will GMOD 9, aka the free one, still work?

GMod 9 is very old compared to GMod 10 / 11.
You also need Counter-Strike: Source to run GMod 9.
Basically, it's not worth it unless you're broke and need GMod right at that moment.

Negative, I managed to get it working without CSS. Dunno how I did it anymore, but I bet google does. It's great fun, for a couple of days. Dunno bout G-mod 11.

GMOD 10/11 = Multiplayer, while theres lots of idiots/griefers labelled minges, its great fun with friends making giant forts. Esp with wiremod and stargate addons
