Using video in forum post

I was wondering why non-admins/moderators can't use the [flash=853,480 command. Often I would like to put a video in a forum without it being a link, similar to an image. Would it be possible to give that permission to everyone? Thanks

IIRC, the reason regular members don't have access to it is because the staff feared that too many embedded videos in the boards would affect people with internet data caps. With the advent of social media, data cap increases, and improved streaming, though, I think this reason is a bit dated...

I don't know why we never added it actually, render times for a page come into mind, though. I can totally see a "post your favorite" video thread bogging my CPU down when there's like 15 videos per page.

I doubt anyone wants a "favorite video" thread. I just think it would be amazing for WIP and Released Mods to be able to preview alpha footage and trailers sub-post.

I don't think we really get enough regulars anymore to need to worry about people abusing it tbh

With that said, I know I would personally be able to make really great use of it. :)

I've enabled the [flash] tag permissions for registered (i.e. not new) users. Give it a go.

The reason was once that there may could be too much videos and this would slow down the site (i think it was guru who told me)
(about the slowing and internet data cap problem: is it possible to load the video only after you klick on it once?? The way the FB, G+, T buttons are used on many sites)

But thanks Mav that's awesome. @WULFMAN your video does not work for me :P

btw. what about the [img] tags in private messages?? i don't need video tags in PM but picture would be very very useful.

Hey, I've added a new BBCode tag to the board for Youtube videos:

Code: Select all

[youtube]https://youtu.be/06i5bN5Nlms[/youtube]
You'll use the shortened link under the "share" option under a video, and it should look very similar to what you saw before:

Sweet. I'll try this now.

Please do not quote the entirety of the post directly before yours for no apparent reason. -Staff

Awesome, thanks Mav! :D Now we won't have to make people watch videos with YouTube's ancient Flash player anymore haha
