I came by this idea after thinking of my noob days and how much iv learnt, so iv decided to pass down my skills to people so they have a better chance mabey. So the trailer:

Like everything else, the only thing that makes you good at anything is practice. Video games are not skill-intensive; shooters especially require minimal critical thinking and maximum conditioned reflexes. No amount of watching video of other people playing well can change this.

Not exactly, the viewer may adopt some of the habits of the player in the video and become better in the game because of that.

For example: in Team Fortress 2, as an Engineer, I always made some bad placement decisions for my Sentry Turrets, normally right in front of big entrances and such, enemies would take advantage of the door as cover and easily dispose of my Sentry. Then I watched a video and observed that this player positioned his Turrets at elevated and somewhat concealed positions, in order to ambush those who passed by; I tried that myself and it worked very well.

Most of the time, practice is the best way to go, but watching others play may teach you a trick or two.

I didn't say that a video couldn't teach you tactics or make you incrementally better, what I said was:

...and that paradigm can't be changed by watching a video. Shooters and other action games are just like sports in that regard. They're not aerobically equivalent, but no physical activity - whether it's button-timing or hitting a tennis ball - can be drastically improved without actually performing that activity over and over and over.

Strategy games and slower-paced games are different in that there is a significant mental component. Fast-paced action games involve minimal mental acuity.

I see what Mav is saying. You can pass on certain ideas and strategies via video, but you can't teach better play (namely reflexes in a game) through a video. Although if I've learned anything in games, learn by following until you can lead. Try stuff people suggest in game, then see what works best and try to teach others.

i agree, practice does help a lot, but you also need gamplay videos to help boost your skill level.

All im going to be doing is show people the best options and pass down my teachings. I admit i trained myself in playing games and learning how the game "works" for example, noticing choke points, snipe spots ect, which will all be shown in the video.

But to get the most you have to practice as well, Although there are some new gamers which dont have the patience to get past the "bottom of table" to "the mid point" could find my video quite helpful, because i remember warrock (my first mulitplayer game) and i got dominated for 2months till i started to get to the mid point of the table by self teaching..

What really inspired me to do this series is watching gamplay machinemas for codmw2 and watching a guy called hutch, which has now made me not camp as much as a sniper and run around a bit.

I wasn't originally addressing your post; I was addressing the sentiment in the second post - however, let me address what you're saying here by refuting it. You don't need to watch other people play to get better. Don't fool yourself into thinking that.

I can agree with that - my point was only that any kind of tutorial can be a supplement to practice, but never a substitute for practice.

iv just started filming trouble is its really hard trying to film in live games, specially when you have a team killer on your side, and havent played cod4 for ages
