New Era / Mode breakdowns

I talked to Zerted the other day and we discussed how the shell was going, and what eras needed to be placed where. Now the original era topic got lost in the server move, so I thought I'd start a new one, this time also throwing out the additional 'modes' that will be available to fill in for modders.

Modes
Existing as of version 1.9.1:
-Campaign
-Conquest
-1-Flag
-2-Flag
-Space Assault
-Hero Assault
-XL
-Team Deathmatch
-Uber
-Hero CTF
-Holocron
-Team Dogfight
...I'm forgetting a few, I'll add them later.

Coded into the shell, but no actual "mode" is created --meaning you can create something like ABCg_race and can load it successfully, but we don't have any race coding.

KotOR scripts use the letter K.


We chould localize some tooltips with something like... "This era brought to you by: Zerted, and the letter K" :mrgreen:

Modes you didn't list: Order 6, Hunt, Classic Conquest, and King of the Hill.

Just curious: how will all the eras fit in the era menu box? Will there be a scrolling feature or something?

An idea for R = Red vs. Blue? delta 47 had this idea. I just thought it was good.

Zerted can answer that, but I think he's got it set up for 9 or 10 to fit. Unfortunately there's no way to make the eras or modes scroll like the map section.

Whats the difference between Uber and XL? Isnt it just an enourmous ammount of units at the same time?

Uber is like a large battle with more units than XL reinforcement wise and you can capture the CP's, that's basically it :)

Actually you have it backwards. :funny2: They're both large-scale battles, but you can only capture CPs in Uber

That's what I meant it basically has the same amounts of units on the battlefield as XL but the reinforcements were a little higher in Uber than in XL...

As far as modes go, would it be possible to throw in support for a vehicle mode? Even if it doesn't make it into the final version of the conversion pack, it would be nice to have a little icon for it on the menu if it ever gets finished and modders want to use it.

Also, why wouldn't Movie be 'M'? :)


EDIT: Oh, wait, I missed your comment about race and vehicle modes there. So, that means that while there is currently no easy code for implementing those modes, they will still have little icons in the shell, right?

EDIT2: Another thought: Are the numbers 0-9 available for the eras? If so, we could use numbers for things like +123, BFX, and TBP and save the letters for things that make sense with letters (such as 'K' for KOTOR and 'Y' for Yuuzhan Vong.) Additionally, what about support for an Old Sith War era?

Movie is now M, -- for Old Sith War... when was that? Pre-KotOR?

Yeah--it's not really a very popular era for SWBF2 maps right now, it seems, but just in case someone wants to try it sometime, it might be nice to have in the shell. Just trying to cover all of the bases. :)

There are no technical problems preventing race mode and I've thought up a way around vehicle mode's issues. However, those modes are still not finished and I don't expect to have time to work on them until the Custom Era shell is finished.

I think its 12 game modes and 5 eras are displayed. After that, the extra mode/eras are just hidden and unselectable.

All the listed game modes are supported in the current shell download, and I think eras k, n, z, y, c, and g.

Oh, I'm leaving in 1-2 days for a week long break (with 28 hours of travel :( ). I won't have good net access, but I should be able to get the SWBF2 Example Finder finished. It helps you find examples... thats all I'm going to say until I post its topic.
