KotOR-era Sides for Convo Pack
Hey GT, I'd like to use this thread to get input on what I'm doing with the KotOR-era sides, since by and large they'll be all-new. Some of the things to consider off-the-bat:
1)Where would you like specific heroes (what planet locations?)
2) What heroes do you want to see, which ones do you feel are unnecessary (there are a lot of KotOR characters that could be heroes, but there are only so many planets to put them on).
Here's some preliminary info on the sides:
Each side is going to have 4 basic classes and 3 or 4 (not sure about officer class) "special" classes. The basic classes are:
Trooper: You know the class. Standard run-and-gun cannon fodder.
Heavy: Slow and powerful. Not very different from stock heavies, except he's slower and carries a repeating blaster (more SW-like and KotOR-like in my opinion) instead of a rocket launcher
Support: Infantry support characters. Carry medpacks, stimpacks, and sonic grenades (low damage, slight "stun") as well as a unique weapon.
Melee: Standard melee-er. Carries vibrosword (no knockback) and some other minor equipment.
Special classes (unlike the standard classes, these tend to vary much more by the side they're on):
Droid: (T3-unit/Sith warbot, pending completion of the models) Unique droid classes for each side. Sith warbot more "heavy"-like, T3 more "support"-like.
Stealth: (Rep. Spy/Sith Assassin) Both of these units use a stealth field generator, other than that they're completely different. Rep spy uses blaster and can take more damage (more like "trooper"-class); Sith assassin uses melee.
Force-User: (Dark Side Adept/Jedi Gunman) Dark side adept uses lightsaber and a weak force power, Jedi uses twin blasters and has more force power.
I'm also considering adding an officer class, just because Caleb and The_Emperor have done such great jobs on officer skins for both the Sith and the Old Republic. Let me know what you think. (These guys would be a "standard" class, for whom I've got a weapon setup already in mind).
Oh, and just to whet your appetites, here's a short vid demonstrating the Jedi Gunman's unique use of blasters:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEVNWOecSqk
(I know it's tough to actually see the ordnance, watch at the very end where I fire it into the sky.)

That Jedi Gunman is the wow factor for me.
That really is some great work, Mav.
I also like how you made the sprint, a sped-up Maul animation.

Re: KotOR-era Sides for Convo Pack
I'd say aye to the officer class (what a surprise lol), the more the merrier, eh?
Sounds really good Mav', and those dual pistols are awesome, but is it balanced enough? I mean there's 3 melee type troopers on the Sith side and just one on the Republic...
As for what hero goes where, what KotOR heroes/villains do you have atm?
Kashyyyk could have Chuundar or Calo or Bandon as villains, Zaalbar or Jolee as heroes, that'd make sense. (you could do Wookiees vs Czerka there lol, never mind that's a lot of work)
Mos Eisley should have HK-47 in it (if you plan on using it) though I'm doubting whether he should be on the Rep or Sith side...
That's about all I can think of that'd make sense.

Re: KotOR-era Sides for Convo Pack
I was concerned about melee balance as well, although initially it looks good. I'm going to make a test map that's more than just a flat field to be sure, though. The only one that has the potential to be unbalanced (and this would be an issue no matter the side) is the Sith Assassin, because he can cloak and use a melee weapon - although I've adjusted the power of his melee weapon accordingly as well as lowered his health.
But as far as the melee/ranged balance issue, it's pretty fair. The special classes seem to match up pretty well (the Republic spy is pretty well-armed and "health"-ier, and the Jedi gunman has force powers that make up for his lack of a melee weapon).
I've got access to all of Caleb's/your KotOR skins, Gogie's new stuff, as well as all the original KotOR heroes from the Conversion pack, so the sky's really the limit as to who I could potentially include.
Mos Eisley'll probably be HK-47 vs. Calo, with HK as the Republic's hero (yeah, he was DS, but he mostly worked for the Republic). I like the idea of Jolee going up against Chuundar.

Anything KotOR you put out'll probably end up in the pack, since they're all better than the reskins we have now.

Re: KotOR-era Sides for Convo Pack
Yes to the officers.
As for heros, well that could be hard, I like The_Emperor's suggestion, but after the few planets that are in the KotoR series are used up, You'll just have to wing it.
I have a suggestion or two though.
Sion as Sith hero on Mustafar, seems fitting for him. VS Kreia/Tryia (or whatever her DS name is)
Tantave is sorta like a republic ship so Carth VS misc Sith? or a random Sith commando?
Mygeeto uhh Malak VS Revan? Malak VS Bastila, AKA early in the war.
Just kinda thinking of simi-random matches.
Death Star could be Juhani VS Bandon (Just sah Bah to cannon)
Anyway, good job, the pistols turned out great!

Re: KotOR-era Sides for Convo Pack
Here's a preliminary list of Hero locations (as more suggestions come in, we'll fill in the blanks). Please give me suggestions, because at the moment there's no guarantee I even remember all the heroes. This list is very flexible.
Coruscant: Vandar (Rep) vs. Traya (Sith)
Dagobah: Jolee (Rep) vs. Bandon (Sith) (Shadowlands)
Death Star: Revan (Rep) vs. Malak (Sith) (Star Forge)
Endor: Zaalbar (Rep) vs. ???
Felucia: Bao-Dur (Rep) vs. Sion (Sith)
Geonosis: Carth (Rep) vs. Uthar Wynn (Sith) (Korriban)
Hoth: Vrook (Rep) vs. Nihilus (Sith)
Jabba's Palace: Atton (Rep) vs. Calo Nord (Sith)
Kamino: Bastila (Rep) vs. Bandon (Sith)
Kashyyyk: Jolee (Rep) vs. Chuundar (Sith)
Mos Eisley: HK-47 (Rep) vs. Calo Nord (Sith)
Mustafar: Mandalore (Rep) vs. Sion (Sith)
Mygeeto: Vrook (Rep) vs. Malak (Sith)
Naboo: HK-47 (Rep) vs. Hanhaar (Sith)
Polis Massa: Kreia (Rep) vs. Sion (Sith) (Peragus)
Tantive IV: Bastila (Rep) vs. Revan (Sith)
Utapau: Mission Vao (Rep) vs. Chuundar (Sith)
Yavin IV: Kreia (Rep) vs. Nihilus (Sith)
Remember this is a very loose list and doesn't even start to include the slate of added-on maps for the Conversion Pack. Did I leave anyone out you want to see in there? Mention, plx.

Re: KotOR-era Sides for Convo Pack
well, there is one guy I would like to see as a hero in here. How about Admiral Saul Karath? I think he could be created as a reskin of the Imperial Commander, and besides, I think having a map with him vs. Carth would be very appropriate.
edit: And could you also ask Teancum to add your dual pistol animations to at least one unit in the CW and GCW eras?

Saul Karath as a Sith hero is a great idea. I was just thinking about how few "gun" heroes the Sith have. Saul is actually the template I'm using for the officer unit, which is going to be a unit with only a pistol but a large variety of grenades.

Nah, I'd rather have that be another reason to play the KotOR era. Having lots of unique things in each one'll make you want to play all of them.ARC_Trooper_phi658 wrote:edit: And could you also ask Teancum to add your dual pistol animations to at least one unit in the CW and GCW eras?

That's a point I really like! Make everything unique, and don't use it for others; then it won't be unique anymore right? Mav', you're also doing a FANTASTIC job on those sides... For officer; i say no. The skins are great, but for me it's a no because there will be too much good AI, and also to much cool classes... Then I can't choose anymore Keep up the great work; In the first version of the Pack, i didn't like KotOR too much, but this is going to be Sa-WEET!Teancum wrote:Nah, I'd rather have that be another reason to play the KotOR era. Re: KotOR-era Sides for Convo Pack
The officer is going to be in, since he's a nice balanced class that adds to the ambience. He's setup to play a lot like Saul Karath played against you in KotOR, that is to say they use lots of grenades. Most units have a standard frag grenade and the support units carry sonic grenades instead of frag grenades, but the officer class carries frag grenades, sonic grenades, and plasma grenades in addition to his hold-out blaster. He could be a toughie if you let him just hang out by an ammo droid.
