iMac Desktops

We are going to be upgrading to one of the brand new iMacs here soon because my dad & I are done w/ Microsoft. We've always had problems with it. I won't go in long detail, but we've had problem after problem and they've never ceased. So my dad finally caved in and we got one of the new iMacs. We're still going to get a parallel so we can run Win7 w/ it because we've got some games that won't transfer over to PC.

The only thing is I wanna know if you can have multiple desktop backgrounds like you do w/ a Microsoft Win7 PC? Do any of you Mac users out there know if you can have 'em? Cuz that would be super awesome!

You'll have just as many problems with any OS.

Yes, I do realize that I won't be entirely problem free but at least the good majority will be fixed. But you know, that wasn't exactly the answer I was looking for.

None of the stuff here is particularly well argued. If macs are PCs that load faster, why not get a mac? If Macs can get viruses, but generally don't, as opposed to windows, why not get a mac? How does the intelligence of the user-base affect wether or not I should own a mac?

I have a mac, and it's certainly a hassle to use as a gaming device, and I'd definitely want a seperate gaming/media rig, why not have a mac? My entire family owns macs, because recenly microsoft gas just been failing for us on multiple levels.

Because you can get something better - a Windows computer - for a quarter, literally a QUARTER of what you would spend on a piece of crap that is worse in terribly aggravating ways. The Mac starts up faster because it skips checks and things that really should be done. Macs are on the rising brim of being in the "virus-worthy" market because of their pathetic popularity. And again, only insane IDIOTS get malware (excluding the ones whose machines are infected through worms, rootkits [AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!], and by other means such as hiding themselves in scripted pages). I'm sorry if I offend anybody ( ), but only the retarded quacks who are too blind to realize the difference between social engineering and the real thing. (No, I'm not pulling words out of Mike's mouth; I knew this before I knew about that website.)

While I agree that Macs suck, (which I used to hate on principle, untill I got a MacBook for awhile as a renter. It was brand new((I pulled of the wrapping myself)), and a piece of junk. Now I hate them from experiance.) you should be more carefull when choosing your words. Its just a computer, no need to start pulling insults.

Anyway, I have a couple pics that sums up the PC vs MAC fight.

A quarter? Literally? Thats not even a slight exaggeration, its an enormous one. If the new iMac costs $1,200, you'd have to find me a $300 PC, and one of better quality than a new iMac, for it to be a quarter of the price. I don't think flagrant exaggeration helps your argument.
Macs are on the rising brim of the "virus-worthy" market... Ok. Rising brim is the keyword. So... not as many viruses yet, although potentially, sometime in the future, Macs will be in the "virus-worthy" market. I'll take my chances for now. And when they start getting viruses, I'll keep using them, just as PCs are still used despite their susceptibility to viruses and monopoly in the "virus-worthy" market.
And if only idiots get malware, and its harder to get malware on a mac, its logically harder to get malware overall, independent of mental capacity (which you really can't prove to be less in the Mac using population) on a Mac.

I still don't see how your argument helps you, as it's largely working in hypotheticals.

Before the argument gets too drawn out here, keep in mind it all user preference. If Nova reeeeeeeaaaaaly wants a Mac, then he should get one. If he doesnt like it then he will remember that we tried to help. If he does like it then he can think we are a bunch of pc-luven idiots. I say Win/win.

And if you want a real argument whether a Mac is better than a PC, remember this
Hidden/Spoiler:
•Media
When you buy a PC running Windows 7, you can get a Blu-ray player, TV tuner, Memory Stick reader, or 3G wireless built in. You can’t get a Mac that ships with these items.

•Games
Most of the world's most popular games are available only on a PC. And Macs can't connect to an Xbox 360. PCs are ready to play.

•TV/Movies
Many PCs running Windows 7 are designed to connect directly to TVs, so you can watch movies and see photos on the big screen. Most Macs can't hook up to your TV unless you buy an adapter.

•Free digital media
With PCs running Windows 7, you can play the video and music stored on your home PC while you're on the go, for free. Apple charges $99/year for its online service.

•Controls that make sense
When you use a PC, everyday things like your mouse and keyboard shortcuts work the way you expect.

•Better features
Windows 7 was designed to make everyday tasks simpler with features that the Mac doesn't have. For example, the new Snap feature makes it drag-and-drop easy to view two documents side by side.

•Working hands on
Sometimes the most natural way to use your computer screen is to touch it. And sometimes a real keyboard and mouse are hard to beat. If you get a PC, you don’t have to choose. PCs running Windows 7 support Touch, so you can effortlessly move between typing and touching to create documents, browse the web, read papers, and shuffle through files and folders. (Of course, you can still use a mouse, too.) Speaking of fingers, PCs with a fingerprint reader even let you log in with just a swipe of your finger.

•Sharing documents and spreadsheets
If you use Apple's productivity suite, sharing files with PC users can be tricky. Your documents might not look right and your spreadsheets might not calculate correctly.
Sharing goes beyond working together on a document. With Windows Live Mesh, you can access your home PC while you’re on the go, so your most important documents are always up to date and at your fingertips. Apple charges $99/year for its online service.

•Giving presentations
You'll have to buy a separate hardware adapter to plug your Mac into a standard VGA projector. Most PCs with Windows 7 hook up easily.

•Protecting your drives
On a Mac, out of the box, you can only encrypt your home folder. With Windows 7 Ultimate, you can encrypt your entire hard drive and even USB drives. So your files can be safer wherever you go. And, with 25 gigabytes (GB) of free online storage, you can save your stuff in your personal cloud and use it from virtually anywhere you are.

•Remote Access
When you’re connected to the Internet you can actually use the programs and files on another PC as if you were sitting right in front of it.

•Securely share your movies, music, and photos
With HomeGroup, you don’t have to manually set up movie and music sharing, file sharing, and printer sharing. Instead, it's easy to automatically and securely network with all the computers in your house when they're running Windows 7. And, when you’re away from home, you can automatically connect to the right printer on each network you use.

•Send hundreds of photos in one tiny email
Sharing high-resolution photos used to mean sending huge email attachments. With a PC and Windows Live Mail, instead of clogging your friend’s inbox, you can send one small email with up to 200 photos attached. Your friend gets a preview album of the photos, can watch a slide show online, and then download high-resolution versions of the exact ones they want.

•Hassle-free files at work
Apple's productivity suite file formats won't open in Microsoft Office on PCs. This can be a real hassle for Mac users sharing work documents with PC users.

•Programs you already know
If there's a Mac version of a program you need, you'll have to buy it again and re-learn how to use it on a Mac.

•Loaded with features
PCs running Windows 7 often come with features that either aren't available or don’t come preinstalled on even the highest-end Macs, including Blu-ray, eSATA, multi-format card readers, touch screens, and mobile broadband support.

•Your choice of style and price
PCs are available in a full spectrum of colors across a wide range of price points. Macs are only available in white or silver.

•Programs you already know
The selection of software for Macs is smaller than the selection for PCs. So if there’s a program you use on a PC, you’ll need to make sure it’s available for the Mac. And, if it is, you’ll need to learn how to use it on a Mac.
ImageI rest my case, if you dont agree then thats your loss. I wont argue further.

ALTHOUGH, to be fair, Macs have improved a lot over the past few years, they dont suck nearly as much as they used too. They are getting close to PC level. Matter of fact, the IMac may actually be good. But the above still holds true. I dont know, the IMac does seem pretty good. BUT I still feel the PC is better. I am just being fair here.

Hey guys, your unsolicited advice is out of hand and is derailing the topic. His question was answered, in the future please let that be enough, thanks.
