On a related note to Tean's Win7 problems, GOOD OL' WINDOWS VISTA won't boot on my laptop anymore. Friday night I turned off all applications and left it running in sleep mode and the next morning, to my horror, it was going through startup repair.
I've gone through an excruciating number of startup repairs, and there are only about three leads to this problem. One of the diagnostic tests said something about a "badpatch"; This could mean a bad windows update. Another one said something about a corrupted hard disk; May be related to the last cause. Or, my laptop is self-aware and wishes to end it's existence. Mav once told me that computers don't autonomously download bad software, but it seems my laptop did. Worst of all, I can never get past startup repair.

Yup. I ran it three times before the incident when my laptop was already kinda slow and it found no problem before this happened (or it just doesn't recognize a certain virus). I closed my web browser, exitted out of steam, and just left the computer idling overnight when it broke itself in my sleep.501st_commander wrote:oh yay

Re: Mysterious crippling error
My laptop has downloaded software on its own, malicious software in fact, I recommend finding a repair shop that does free diagnostics.
edit, this is the first time i disagree with Mav
double edit, my 900th post now, on to 1000!

Without digressing too much, since it is irrelevant to actually solving the OP's issue - computers are dumb machines that do not do anything they are not told to do. Computers can't download anything without you allowing it in some way, shape, or form. If your computer is "downloading something [malicious] on its own," that means you already have some sort of malware installed that you allowed to run, however inadvertently.THEWULFMAN wrote:My laptop has downloaded software on its own, malicious software in fact, I recommend finding a repair shop that does free diagnostics.
