Hi i want to upgrade my AMD Sempron 140 2.70 GHz Upgraded to an AMD Black Edition Phenom II X4 3.2 GHz Processor. The problem is that when i replaced the processor is that when I tried to run the computer.. the Message said The CPU installed is unsupportive. Can anyone give me advice?

Prosessors are one of the hardest things to replace.

I will need the motherborad manufacturer and product ID (like Intel 890X-GF3) thats found on the board.

Yeah, unfortunately even if the slot type is the same you still need to know voltages, core speeds and multipliers, and ensure the processor specs match.

The Black Edition is newer and supports AM3 motherboards, but can be backwards-compatible with AM2/AM2+

It may be that the Black Edition needs more watts that the rest (95w vs. 148w [idle]), but other that that, i'm not sure..

Um which of these multicore processors do you believe would be compatible with Black ops since it requires a lot from the computer.

I dont use AMD, im an Intel guy. So i cant really tell you, but does the one you have now compatible With BOps?

Getting one with the same dimentions is the hard part.

also, according to AMD, it should compatible with that motherboard. Its some other hardware currently in the pc thats not.

And not software? I don't see anywhere the size of your power supply, could you post that.

Im saying the socket type. AM2+ is compatible with BEP.

Socket Type is not the only consideration. The supported processor listing in the system BIOS of the motherboard matters to.

Example Case:

Dell Dimension 8400 Desktop- Year 2004 Model
Socket LGA 775
Pentium 4 HT 3.2GHz

Intel Q9400 Core 2 Quad 2.66GHz- Year 2008 Q'3'
Socket LGA775 CPU

Even though they share the same sockets, the CPU is not supported due to the motherboard being outdated for that CPU line and the CPU Hardware ID not being in the supported list of the BIOS.

For AMD, allot of the AM3 line is usable in AM2+ boards but only in the more recent ones. AMD is a bit better on backwards compatibility than Intel, but it's not 100%.

This is why I recommended one of those AM2+ CPUs to you over xfire. The AM2+ CPUs are 99.99% likely to work based on the year they were released.
