Game Resolutions

Hey guys, I have 'old' monitor that was the best monitor around at its time. And I've bought an awesome computer for gaming and I want to put the resolution up a bit higher for games such as
GTA 4
But the maximum I can get up to with this monitor is 1200 x 1024 for every single game I have (i've got around 40 games).
How can I ascend/increase my resolution scale?

I used nvidia control panel and made a custom screen res but it goes all blurry and hurts your eyes.

To get a bigger res, you need a bigger moniter.

You paid "a couple o hundred bucks for a piece metal" or more just to play your games, did you not? You can't go beyond the number of pixels a monitor can support with only software. "Upgrading" your hardware is the only way to go.

Well my monitors perfectly fine. I'm not a complete all out assault gamer so if I do buy one I'm afraid its a 'waist'. Hmmm I dunno.

Why, exactly, do you want to turn the screen resolution up on your games? You don't want the resolution to be as high as possible, that doesn't make your game look any better. You want the screen resolution to fit as closely as possible to the resolution of your monitor so the models aren't stretched or compressed. If you try playing a game in 1920x1080 on an 800x600 screen its going to look like crap.
Check your monitor's specs and adjust the game resolution to match it as close as possible... Or if you want absolutely no stretching, see if the game supports windowed mode.

You're going to have to get a new monitor to play at anything higher.
Screen resolution is pixel by pixel. You can't place a generated pixel where there isn't a real one to go along with it. So, if you have a 1920x1080 monitor and want to play a game on it at 2560x1600, you're not going to be able to do that. There are only 2073600 pixels on the monitor. You can't place 4096000 pixels in there.
Besides, if a monitor is 1200x1024, then it's not very good anyway. If your computer is killer, then you're hurting yourself considerably by not using it at all its potential. I would buy yourself a new monitor.

Obviously.
What I'm trying to say is my maximum is 1240 x 1024, how can I get it up a few hundred.
So its 1440 x 1224.
Well if the only answer I can get is pay a fortune then thats...

Yes, but why do you want to up it even just a few hundred? It won't do anything except compress the image in an attempt to make it fit. The game will look weird if you go any higher or any lower than 1240x1024. Higher screen res =/= better graphics quality. It's just a size. Like a shoe. You're trying to fit your size 13 foot in a size 12 shoe. It's going to be uncomfortable and awkward and pointless (because in this case you control how big the foot is) unless you spend money to buy a new shoe.
