Idk if this is the right place to put it, but couldn't think of anywhere else.

I've seen a lot of people make really cool-looking fractals on GIMP and a few other programs, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to do anything remotely that complex. Heck, it took me 10 minutes to slap a gradient and some text on a pre-existing image. Could anyone give me a simple tutorial on how to make a simple fractal?
