Ridiculously high-resolution images...How do you open them?

I was fiddling around with my scanner yesterday, and decided to put it up to the highest resolution possible (it could actually go higher, but there isn't an image file format that can save files that large). I put in the front cover for the game 'Black and White 2' as it has a pretty cool looking design on the front, and it was the first thing that came to hand. I started the scan, and 20 minutes later came back to find a JPEG of immense size. It's 310.6 mb, and is 21272x32122 pixels. No program on my computer can open it, and I have only managed to open it on a school computer by using Appleworks Paint. However it was extremley slow, so does anyone know of a program made to deal with huge images?

I would say that most programs should be able to open it, it's just the problem of your computer being able to handle it.

managed to open it, with windows image/ fax viewer. Its pretty cool, you can see all the dots of ink, they're all different colours up close.
