Hey, can someone help me?
Lately (about 1-2 weeks ago till now) I've been having VERY slow downloads. For instance, 3 weeks ago I downloaded a mod map that was 200mb and it took me only 8 mins, and now it will take me an HOUR AND A HALF! I can't even download anything at this rate! Can someone help me??
Also on some games I installed (KOTOR 2) used to crash and reboot my computer. Also all the time now my computer revs uncontrollably.... It isn't the game because I tried it on SWBF2 and it crashed too, and also with no games at all, it just crashed on my desktop...
Help..

Re: Slow Downloads
We can't really help you here.
The first one is most likely a problem with your ISP, contact them if you want help, and the second one is just from a bad computer.

Re: Slow Downloads
Computers can't just "turn bad" over night. Par said that it was fine until a few weeks ago. Anyway, it has to be something to do with your internet. It could also be a virus, some variates use almost all you internet connection.DarthRogueKnight wrote:...and the second one is just from a bad computer...

I beg to differ, I've lost 3 computers to "overnight" problems.theultimat wrote:......Computers can't just "turn bad" over night.....DarthRogueKnight wrote:...and the second one is just from a bad computer...

Re: Slow Downloads
It could also be an update to some of your system files that didn't come over well. (I had that once. It was a heavy programm that ate a lot of real-time memory, whilst only trying to figure out why it couldn't do anything)

Well I would run a manual scan to see if there is a virus that is preventing your virus program from automatically scanning.Par3210 wrote:Hm, I dunno, my antivirus hasn't let me know about any viruses lately which it always does..

Re: Slow Downloads
If you are using a router or modem, unplug the power cord from it, wait about ten seconds, then plug it back in. This flushes something or other, and allows you to get a new IP from your ISP. It has always worked for me, no matter the router/modem type or ISP.
If you are using Firefox, find the DownThemAll extension and install it. Use it to download some things- it is usually much faster, sometimes up to twice as fast as before.
Depending on the internet provider you use, they may have restricted your internet access to slower speeds due to you clogging up a section of the network. If you are regularly downloading files of that size, then this is likely a possibility. What ISP do you use?
As for the virus possibility, this is possible- depending on the sort of sites you visit you may have picked up something if you are not using Adblock. If you think you have a virus of some sort, download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and run a quick scan- this will usually get rid of anything too bad. Anti-viruses cannot be counted on to stop everything and relying on them to do that is not a good idea. You have to be careful of the sites you visit and be proactive with your scannings.
In terms of the installation problems- you will need to restate that entire section and provide more information, as I can't really make out what you're saying the computer and games do. It sounds like you're saying it makes a loud noise, like a fan, and then crashes. This could be overheating, but I'm not sure without more information.
Hope some of this helps!
