Graphics problems

Okay, here's the story: I was attempting to play Half Life 2 Episode 2 on my crappy laptop. I turned off the High Dynamic Lighting, put it in window view, set the graphic options as low as they could possibly go, played about ten minutes of super-laggy game before the screen goes black, and comes back with a message that says "Display Driver igfx stopped responding and has recovered". Now, whenever I play any other game, it opens in a smaller resolution, even though the settings are at fullscreen, and I get the same blackout and message shtick.

Any ideas or help?

Trust me: I already tried. I swear this thing is made out of feces. It uses an Intel integrated chipset for graphics, so installing a new graphics card would require a $700 converter. This problem only started this morning, and all I want is for it to let me play my games.

Have you played it before ok?

If not it might be one of those games that won't work on integrated graphics cards like:Empire total war.

If you had a desktop you could easily get a good cheap card.

Do a system restore to before you tried to play HL2.

All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore

You can do it before Windows starts up as well, but this is the best way I know to describe it. If you need to change the restore point to the time and date you need.

this has happened to be while playing bf2 before. what i do to fix it is right click the desktop and then change the screen to full screen via graphics options. i think this varies for different drivers, however.
edit: intel integrated...blegh same here :runaway:

Back up your computer. NOW. I've lost tons of data to errors similar to this, and while things like system restored, reboots, and other things seem to fix it, its a sign that your gfx/memory card is going bad.
