Strange problem with internet speed

Post by DarthD.U.C.K. »

since we moved to your new house, our internet speed is poor, there was only DSL 1000 avaible on our old provider and i downloaded with 60kb/ps on my computer other computers in our house downloaded faster. i made a speedtest and it showed my that mys speed was poor (i allready saw that on the downloadspeed).
now we changed our provider and got DSL 2000 all other computers are able to download faster, but i can still only download with 60kb/ps. i thought my networkclabe or my pc could cause this speeddecrease.
yesterday i made another speedtest and it showed me that i am supposed to be able to download with 250kb/ps, it rated my speed very good.
but i still download with 60kb/ps!!!!

im extremely confused, the slowness cant be caused by my computer, the network cable or my software (i newly set-up the computer two months ago. but why the hell can i still only download with poor 60kb/ps????

Have you tried doing speed tests that are supposed to improve your download/upload speeds? I once did some and I think they improved mine but I can't remember you can check at DSL Reports. And what browser are you using? It probably wouldn't matter much but sometimes when I switch browsers it will fix my download problems. If you have Firefox you can also install this addon that will analyze and find your problem (hopefully).

Your download speed depends of where you're downloading from, so check several speedtest servers to make sure, and if that doesn't work, try resetting the router.

i tried the speed testtool (thank you!)
and it gave me a speed around 250kb/ps
on other computers the speed is better and they are all using the same router to acess the internet
im using mozilla firefox
im currently trying to download something from the chip.de sever, it has 100 to 150 kb/ps O.o im going to test another server now

EDIT:looks like only filefront is 60kb/ps slow...
are you all downloading with 60kb/ps from filefront???

For me Filefront usually downloads at about ~50kbps. Good sites let me D/L at about ~140kbps.
IMHO, Filefront always seems slow.

It all depends on the day with FileFront for me. One day I get 700kbs-1.1MBs another day I only get 250kbs-400kbs so its their server problem but for me it varies day by day.

Try calling your ISP and asking about it.

I just skimmed a little so hopefully this helps info

if your on cable , your LOOP has a dedicated dsl connection at the end of your street that up to 999 users in a loop are sharing(regardless of the omg faster then lightning spam you see on tv). If joe at the end of your street just found free donkey movies your out of luck till he gets sleepy. If its comcast you are in an oversold cable internet service and thats why. Your sharing 1 dslam with a gillion porn mongers/p2p hounddogs.

If your on bellsouth or similar dsl providers (the new at&t..snore) you can have a dsl account with from 1 mb to 8 mb downloads depending on what you can pay and now days you dont even need phone service (thats how i have it setup here) Dsl is your own connection dedicated to the dslam. Your neighbor can have a whackattack all night watching old papasmurf downloads and hot l33t music and it wont affect your speeds.

Hoep this helps. I guess everyone already knows this but I like to restate the obvious.mmmm donkey
