What OS are you using?
Try shutting down with this command and see what happens:
If all else fails then I would press and hold the Power button until it shuts down rather than pulling the plug.
Edit: fixed^^
A little searching led me to this site:
http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm
even though it talks of older operating systems the information may still be relevant to your problem.

With some computers, you may have to hold it longer. For instance, my computer, you hold it for 7 seconds.

The command line does the same as the shutdown button - restrats the pc
And just to ask you,Ace when i do the process with the power up button, will it save my data as when i shut it down[without the screens]?

Use System Restore to roll your system back to an earlier date. Just pick a date before things started going funny. If system restore doesn't fix it it may be a hardware issue.

yup definitely try that if nothing works.
also is this windows? cause a lot of windows computers you have to tame and these stupid bugs stop happening. (i got a similar bug where it would never finish shutting down and a system restore fixed it.) i know it sounds funny but its true lol
