No aplications work

Well, I munged a map, but when I tried to play it, it froze my cou, so I had to shut down with the power button. When I turned my cpu on again, almost none normal aplications work, including my documents, internet explorer, my computer, and everything else that came with windows. My games work fine, but everything else won't open when I double click, even though they show up in the aplications list when I hit ctrl alt delete. Then, when I turn off the cpu, all the programs pop up at once, then close because it's shutting down. This is really annoying, so I was hoping someone could help.

If you munge a map and it takes forever it's not broken, it's thinking. Sometimes it can take hours if you're doing custom sides. Just let it run it's course. NEVER stop a munge.

I didn't stop a munge ( I read that earlier), it finished munging, but when I tried to play the map, it froze. All the microsoft applications on my profile don't work, but those on my brother's profile do.

A virus maybe? Of course how would it have gotten onto your comp...

He doesn't have a virus; he's been PMing me regularly on a map (I presume this is a different map?) and he knows it's not a virus.

Yep. Just to be safe, I'm doing a virus scan of my whole cmp, but it's been about 2 hors and nothing yet, plus I virus scan all the maps I download.

EDIT: if it helps, I get errors when I shut down about these two programs that I guess automaticly start up when I log on:

CTRL + ALT + DEL, then click the Processes tab, then click the CPU tab in there twice. It should organize all applications by how much CPU they are using. System Idle Process should be 80-95 percent and nothing else should be taking more than 10-20 percent.

In the processes tab, my idle procceses is taking 99%, and everything I've tried to open will come up as 0%. So everything I tried to open shows up in proccesses, but not aplications. I asked my dad about it, and he's an engineer, but he has no idea what it could be.

That sounds kinda like a virus, or spyware.

Yep, or something very important was running at shutdown. If you go to START-->PROGRAMS-->ACCESSORIES-->SYSTEM RESTORE you can roll your system back to an earlier date. It's really pretty easy to do, and if it ends up making things worse there's an option to roll back to the way you had it. Just choose 'Restore my computer to an earlier time', then look through the calendar for a recent SYSTEM CHECKPOINT.

The thing is, nothing in the start menu worked except for log off and shut down, but m y dad fixed the computer somehow. Now I can mod again! (and no, it wasn't a virus)
