Can't run ZeroEditor on Vista, 3D Analyze not working

Post by Nova Hawk »

Ok, so I'm still having problems with the zeroeditor. These are the steps that I did.

1. First I Created a map in the Mod Tools. 3 Letter name: BOC. Full World Name: Corellia Combat.
2. Then I went into the data_BOC/_Build and did the VisualMunge.
3. Then I went into the Star Wars Battlefront II PC Server and created a folder named "addon".
4. Next I moved the whole data_BOC folder into the addon folder in the PC Server directory.
5. Next I made the zeroeditor into a .bat file with the 3D Analyze and clicking the "force SW TnL" in the Performance section.
6. Then I hit "Save batch file!" and saved it as "zeroeditor.exe".
7. Next I closed the 3D Analyze.
8. Finally, I tried to open the ZeroEditor in the .bat file, but nothing came up. It went up at first, but then it disappeared.

Is there anything that I could be doing wrong? Any ideas on how I could fix this? Thanks a lot in advance!

Just to make sure, paste the contents of the .bat file (right click the file, click edit, copy the contents, and paste that here) along with the directory path for 3D Analyze.

Because the title "Problems problems..." doesn't help anything, you need to use descriptive subjects for your topics.
You've also been spreading your ZeroEditor troubles over 3 different topics so you're lucky I didn't just delete it!

Yeah, sorry about that. It's just that no body seems to be helping me. Now I know I've said this in the past and the reply I've gotten was "no body seems to know fix it". I put it here so everyone can get a clear view on the problem I'm having.

Since you don't know how to use the Search here on Gametoast I took the liberty to do it for you:
http://www.gametoast.com/forums/search. ... mit=Search

Browse through each topic and read every post and follow any advice given and click on any links provided to any type of fix and once you've tried everything and still can't get ZE to start, then hang it up because it just won't work with your setup, deal with it and move on.

You know, I have a PC in my house and I'm gonna try to install Battlefront on that then do the BF2 Mod Tools. The only problem with my PC is that it doesn't run that fast...

@Ace, yeah sorry I couldn't find the search engine.

Yeah, I'll try what you said.

EDIT
Ok, so I installed BF2 on my Windows XP PC and I still get an error, not the runtime error but a different one. I'll try putting it into a .bat file...

EDIT2
Ok, I tried putting it into a .bat file and I still can't access it. I guess modding or map making just is not for me right now.

EDIT3
I've seen people updating their video cards and doesn't it use money in order to update your video card?

Just to help you on your terminology here, you're not "putting the it into a .bat file" you are creating a .bat file that, when run, opens up 3D Analyze, selects Force SW TnL for you, and then runs Zeroeditor for you, essentially just making the process faster for you. If you post the contents of the .bat file, I'll be able to make sure that you are doing the process correctly and tell you whether or not this fix works for you.

"Updating a video card" is a misnomer, you are instead updating the drivers that the video card uses, which does not cost any money.

Wait a minute, so your saying that when I create the .bat file I run the file from 3D Analyze instead of closing it and running it from the directory? And I know that I'm supposed to click the Force SW TnL thing before I hit the "save batch file" thing.

I'm trying to reinstall the whole BF2 Mod Tools thing atm on my XP since I installed it before I installed BF2. After I install it again, I'll try your suggestion.

And thanks for your help, Fris. I will post a topic to say that I have gotten it fixed (whenever that'll be).

I was just explaining the process for you, so that you might learn something. Once you double click the .bat file, if it's created correctly, Zeroeditor should open after a few moments.

Yeah, it does run then it either closes or gives me an error depending on which format it is in.

EDIT
Ok, there's good news. I got it to work on my XP but not my Vista. Which is a disappointment since I like my Vista a lot more than my XP.

EDIT
Which document(s) would you recommend for beginners? I'm geussing the ZeroEditor_guide...

The one that's called 'Getting Started.' Then go on to tutorials here at GT (find them in the 'Everything You need Thread'). A lot of them are more useful than the documentation provided (although the documentation does have some useful stuff).

@Sky I've read some of the Getting Started guide. But does that tell you how to add vehicles, objects, trees, etc and custom terrain?

I think it would be great if someone did a video on YouTube on how to get started. 'Cause it's a lot more easier if you can see than read. At least, for me.

Since you decided to use XP instead of Vista there's really nothing more to discuss here.
