Video Codec

Post by AlexSecura »

Which Codec converts the Picture at its best?
DIVX or XVID?

I ever use xvid.
One of my friends told me that this codec would convert to the best Picture but sound would not be that good quality.

Does anyone knows it and can tell me.

Thanks so far.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DivX#Competitors
While DivX has long been renowned for its excellent video quality, its free and open source equivalent Xvid today offers even more advanced quality, also based on MPEG-4 Part 2 (MPEG-4 ASP). In a series of subjective quality tests at Doom9.org between 2003 and 2005, the DivX codec was beaten by Xvid every year.

The video codec has nothing to do with sound quality. I don't know much about the different sound encodings, but for video I would use Xvid over DivX.
