Redeeming Xbox LIVE card

I just got a 3 month gold card for Shadowrun for Vista. I don't own a 360. I go to Xbox.com and click on upgrade and redeem code and both give me this error after entering the code exactly. Can't redeem code. Please Try again. No like try again due to people flooding the servers or this part of your code doesn't match up. I requested email assistance but have yet to receive it.
Does anyone have any insight on this?
EDIT: i got my support email suggesting to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX between 8am-12mn central time.
