Re: Windows 7 is awful
I got my own laptop 7 in November, 2009. Before that, I used the family xp since 2002. In my opinion, 7 Is far better than xp.
I think 7 is better for a few reasons, but I like it mainly because it is so easy to find things! (pictures,video..) Also, It runs programs very well, and I like the new features; Like the new 'Recents' sub part in start, the new 'snap window feature', great for modding. (example..
you can have a msh folder on one half of the screen, msh viewer on the other half, with no clicking) The visuals are not bad either. Although I'm not happy with a few things,(New Movie maker is horrible, help is more 'Online' than it used it be:) I am really enjoying the system. So easy.

The Windows Live suite does cut down on a bunch of features, but at least in the case of Movie Maker, you can download the full Windows Movie Maker and use it in Win7 just fine (I did the same; Live MM is pretty awful).Cerfon Rournes wrote:Although I'm not happy with a few things,(New Movie maker is horrible, help is more 'Online' than it used it be:) I am really enjoying the system. Yeah, almost the day I got the PC, I downloaded the Vista version of Movie Maker.Maveritchell wrote:The Windows Live suite does cut down on a bunch of features, but at least in the case of Movie Maker, you can download the full Windows Movie Maker and use it in Win7 just fine (I did the same; Live MM is pretty awful).Cerfon Rournes wrote:Although I'm not happy with a few things,(New Movie maker is horrible, help is more 'Online' than it used it be:) I am really enjoying the system. Re: Windows 7 is awful
clarification: I was just saying maybe they will make another version of windows that is somewhat like XP but more advanced. (like XP theme/format with the extras included in win7,like movie maker.)

^^ Good idea Dakota. If they did that, they would also need to keep 7's epic visuals

I completely agree.501st_commander wrote:Windows 7 > XP > Vista > all other editions
I find windows 7 muuch more easy to use. Better performance, organization, and overall better features.
Tean, i think you should of given it more time, looked at the features more, and searched things you wanted to change. I was about the same way at first, but the more i use it, the better it is (now xp is a dinosaur to me).
Mostly true. But sometimes, redoing things make it better, and faster (I think this may apply to coding it more than the look).Teancum wrote:Frankly I'm getting sick of MS trying to reinvent the wheel. They should focus on polishing what they have rather than doing everything over each time.
Linux is nice but they haven't perfected the ability to run Windows games. They have gotten really close but not close enough. You can customize win7 but the process is a little different most of the time. I'm waiting for Windows 8 right now but I hope people give Microsoft some ideas for it.guru wrote:I prefer Linux so I can tear windows users into oblivion.
But really yea win 7 is like winme was supposed to be... all user freindly and GUI but nothing customizable. I do like that I can remote desktop in win7 from an iPad
Sorry to hear you don't enjoy win7 but a new os is already in the coding state now so maybe something new for you in WinX
I think the vista version is the best version but I can't find a way to download that version anywhere.Cerfon Rournes wrote:Yeah, almost the day I got the PC, I downloaded the Vista version of Movie Maker.Maveritchell wrote:The Windows Live suite does cut down on a bunch of features, but at least in the case of Movie Maker, you can download the full Windows Movie Maker and use it in Win7 just fine (I did the same; Live MM is pretty awful).Cerfon Rournes wrote:Although I'm not happy with a few things,(New Movie maker is horrible, help is more 'Online' than it used it be:) I am really enjoying the system. offtopic sorta: if you have the installer for that version, could you share it please?
I'm not sure what all windows 8 will have but I've heard that it will be able to do sooooo much more.

Windows 7 is awful. I tried it at a friends house once. UUGGHHHHH.
The worst part - he's invested $300 in PC games that he can't even play anymore because they don't work on Windows 7. Can't they code in something that allows old games from the XP era to work on it?

But that's sits on top of Win7, which means you're running an application inside an application designed to emulate an OS. That's exactly the kind of band-aid fix that bothers me.

Whats the point of a new operating system when you have to jump over a dozen hoops to get what you want. I just got my laptop fixed, I had them, install XP, and the technician likes XP over Vista or Win7. Plus XP is still cheaper than Win7, and always will be, so why would I pay more, for more frustration?

I've noticed another one of those "jump through hoops" problems with Vista's system of organizing files. They're arranged in a nonsensical fashion that wears my patience to a thread. Anything like that in Windows 7?

Re: Windows 7 is awful
my little brother almost cryed at the thought of using win7 in 2014 because all his favorite games only work on XP hmm i wonder how long i can use XP after all support goes away...
RANDOM CRACK POT THEORY TIME: maybe just maybe they will extend the support a little longer since so very many people still use XP
off topic: this reminds me of windows live games (the ones that only work online) so many people complained that they stoped making games that only work on multiplayer

Re: Windows 7 is awful
Windows 7 has support for most games since 3-4 years before Windows Vista was released, and some more even before that. So, most likely, the games you have (depending what they are) will work.

that isn't a game.
With a C++ error, i gather it was built in C++. Meaning, the computer is missing a file, framework, redistributable packge needed. The only thing is, no one can find out what it is.

Re: Windows 7 is awful
the games i am talking about are really old... and i think we tested it at one point so i don't really know i just hope they work in 2014 or how ever long we can hold up with no support...
