Age of Empires 2 help

I can't seem to get AOE2 to start up. When it begins it gives me a notice that it "Could not intitialize graphics system. make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw."
Thing is, I ran a test including in the program files and it said I did have DirectDraw. Could it be because I have Win7 and have DirectX 11, which many games do not support?

Hmmm....this sounds familiar. I play it every now and then.

I'm not sure if this will fix it, but I know it corrects the bug where your point keeps going to the top of the screen, but run the direct X install.
