could grouping multiple objects as one decrease the amont of lag?
for example: if i made a forrest of individual trees then multi-selected them all and saved that as an object would that decrease the amount of lag or would it have no effect?

no , since all your doin is groupin them for ZE's sake.
In genereal, having everything on a map be 1 object would make the lag worse since theyd share the same lod mesh.

You can add portals...i think, but i have no idea of how they work...
