I need a really big favor...

Yeah, so I'm in need of a good mini-map for my Alderaan map, but I'm no good at making them. So I'm going to ask; would anyone be willing to make me a mini-map?

Now, what I really want is a map in the style of the official maps, but I doubt that's going to happen. I don't really think there's an easy way of getting that kind of style mini map, but who knows? Maybe someone can make one. If not, I'm fine with just a regular map using my screen. Either way, here's a top-down view of the map for anyone who's willing to do it:

And, just in case someone needs it, for those of you might want to take the challenge of making the official-looking style map, here's the Mygeeto map for reference:

As you can see, there's a lot of pretty basic shapes in there, like squares and circles and stuff. You might be able to piece together something with it. Really, it doesn't matter. I wouldn't mind if someone just made me a mini map using the screen.

Take note that if you are going to do this, the image needs to be 512 x 512 pixels. The actual map itself doesn't need to take up all 512 pixels, but the dimesions of the image need to be that size.

Isn't there a function in "terrain" that lets you take a screenshot of your map for a mini-map, it's about 1024 pizels and i think it is there for making mini-maps perfect so why don't you look it up.

It doesn't show buildings, and that's all this map really is... is buildings.

Hey Schizo, I'm up for doing that for you. I'm good in Illustrator, so I can whip it out for you pretty quick, in the EXACT style of the official mini maps, and it'll be easily modifyable if you add buildings or whatever like you were talking about. Let me know if no one else is working on it, and I'll start.
One thing...can you provide an orthographic top-down of your map? Makes it easier to get things accurate. It also looks like the one above might be squished (scaled width-wise). Just provide me with an image with the proper proportions, and I can scale it to what will fit in the 512x512 since it's all vector.

Well, Krun already said he'll take a shot at it, but if you can do it, go for it. I mean, the more the merrier, eh? This way I could have a coupld graphics to look at and be able to pick the best one.

Here's a pack of several topdown views I took in ZeroEditor. Use them if you need them:

Squipple will you make a minimap for me when I'm done with my map?

No prob. Anyone who needs mini maps, pm or email me. The one above took me about 30 min. And, again, if you can provide a orthographic view I can get more accurate. The close-ups of some important or detailed areas that Schizo provided help too.

Holy crap. Nice job man. That looks excellent! Thanks a lot for your help, squipple. I just hope Krun doesn't get mad because you got to it first. :P

If I ever need any BFII-style mini-maps for future projects, I'll definitely come to you for help. :)

How did you make that? Did you overlay the picture and draw on top of it?

Yeah, pretty much. I place an image (one in Schizo's zip file) in illustrator, lock it down, and draw on top of it in layers, keeping the original Mygeeto map nearby to look at line weights, etc. I make sure the lines and fills are on individual layers for coloring purposes, export to Photoshop, match the color with the original map there, and save as a png.
Hopefully my actual BF2 maps turn out as good as my mini maps :)

Just a litle advice on scales Squipple (btw that mini map is awesome). When I do mine they show up fine in game but they are always a bit off. ike the CPs arent where they should be or in a tunnel the locator arrows for units are running alongside the tunnel instead of in them. How do you make it so the map is accurate to the position of your map?

BTW Im just screen shotting to get the basic layout as the save in terrain editor doesnt sow any buildings.....
