Suggestions for the playable size of a map...

Okay, I have been planning out my maps and have been toying around with ZE getting used to the functions and all. Also have read the docs and some tutorials. But what I'm unclear of is planning or conceptualizing the playable size of my map upon first loading it in ZE.
I understand that each grid in ZE is 8 meters (or approx 25 feet). I guess I just can't wrap my mind around how far to place objects, changes in terrain, and CPs without making the map so enormous that it would be unplayable. (or a massive sized file)
Basically when I look at the ZE grid for the first time...how much of the area should I use? (I know this is relative to the particular map one is making...but generally).
Thanks!!
EDIT: does anyone have a pic to show me as an example? Thanks again.
