How do I add a tunnel. i add the object but its out in the open so its not really a tunnel. how do i raise the terrain around it and over it without the terrain going through to tunnel?

You need a terrain cutter. Usually (if you're using objects that came in the assets folder) there will be an object that is specifically designed for an entrance/exit (ex: the one for hoth is called tunnel_exit i think).

yeah i have the exit one but not the entrance one. in what order do i have to use these objects. for example, do i place the entrance then the tunnels then the exit. or does it even matter as long as i have both the entrance and the exit.

i gotta find that tunnel_entrance. i already have the tunnel_exit

EDIT: does the hoth_bldg_bunker count as an entrance?

i'm having trouble now, too. i thought there was only exit, and that took care of the terrain cutting. but the second one i have isn't working, and it's right across from the first. it's facing in the opposite direction, but i rotated it. it's quite odd, because the terrain isn't visible through the tunnel, but it still blocks me from going inside. anyone help with this?

There is only one terrain cutter that I know of and it's the Hoth_tunnel_exit ( there is no "entrance"). There is a whole sticky about terrain cutters and how to create them in the xsi section. Jango, I've had that happen to me before. I don't know what causes it, but I had to redo the entire tunnel section.

so wait a sec. u have to make the hoth_bunker then the tunnels. then the tunnel_exit, all going through raised terrain?
im so confused.

Another Terrain Cutter if you download the bf1 mod tools is rhn1_prop_breakwall_2. Its the biggest shipped one I have encountered.

Oh, and in BF2 you can use the terrain cutting feature of the objects without actually having the building in your map by putting it in a new layer, and then removing that layer from the common game mode and all others.

It's much more convenient that saving a copy of the terrain and then deleting the cutter than overwriting the uncut terrain with the copy of the cut terrain, like you used to.

I know its old too but I hear a lot here about terrain cutters and all that.. all I did to get working tunnels was set the height to -10 cleared an area put my tunnles, cps etc in then raised the terrain --the terrain raised arounnd and over the network.... was very very simple all this terrain cutting stuff.... complicated!!!!

i think u did something wrong and u don't know it. did u put the tunnels in before or after u raised the terrain?
to make working tunnels u need to raise the terrain the put the tunnels in. If u place tunnels and then raise the terrain the terrain will just go through ur tunnel system and nothing will work.

If I remember correctly I raised the terrain then added a hoth exit and connected my tunnel system to it. As a tip columns are great for covering any gaps in a tunnel system where the tunnels connect this way you can make interesting connections and ultimately a more interesting tunnel system. Floor plates are also great for connections, gives you more options than the left/right and 3 way junction. Using them you can do almost anything including an 'S' shaped tunnel or whatever.

I think the column and floor plate were in Hoth assets.

Happy tunnelling and am glad to say my tunnel map works and is stable but its just a tester and a close quarters combat practice thing for clan.
