I know its a lot of work to make a video game but unfortunely a lot of companys think that since it's Star Wars it will sell no matter what and they can get away with stuff. (Don't get me wrong there are tons of hands down awesome SW vid games)
And yes that manual screen is disgusting, not in the fact that its a work of art but in the fact that they hoped that would sell more units.
Why else would they bother putting it in there if not to draw in people to how cool they game is, when in reallity it isn't there. -disgusting

wooooo i didn't even see that picture in the manual. I now have a new level of hate for LA and PAN. Though i have to say it DOES look like you could recreate it in BF2. It looks like hes using his jetpack and flying backward. Thats how it looks if you do that. If only they actually made a dual weapon animation. Stupid LA and PAN.

Except that you'd have to own the game already to see it in the manual.Vyse wrote:And yes that manual screen is disgusting, not in the fact that its a work of art but in the fact that they hoped that would sell more units.
Come on guys, be realistic. They didn't put it in to spite us. It was probably some intern making the manual who thought "Hey, this pic looks cool! I think I'll put it in."
On that note, it seems everyone's on this 'conspiracy trip', myself included. We need to back off. We're sitting here saying Pandemic totally jipped us on features like animations for two weapons, lack of prone, lack of correct weapon models, etc. Well, they could have done that, but they have to make money. So if Lucasarts pays them a lump sum of money to do the game and it takes longer than expected, that's less $$ for Pandemic. In reality, if Pandemic could have created the game as they wanted I'd be willing to bet we'd have a lot more in it.
So now Lucasarts is the devil, right? Not really. Think about it. They can't have games in development for over a year or the community loses interest. An extreme example is Duke Nukem Forever. But the reality is that everyone has deadlines they've gotta keep, and so some things get cut.
Oh and before someone says "Psych0fred said that the game was done 6 months before release", don't. To that I say this. All of the BF1 conversions are 'done', but we keep finding bugs and ways to improve them, don't we? My point is that Pandemic focused on the most important things first.

I like how that was totally random. But yeah bashing lucas arts/pandemic is kind of goofy - these guys are working jobs to make money, not specifically to have a happy community.
My point being, their job is just like any other job, and their primary goal is most often to support their families. Having a happy community is not even on the top5 list of priorities. Because believe it or not, SW game sell. I was tremendously disappointed in the lack of a coherent story or plot in jedi acadamy, especially when compared to jedi outcast. but i still bought the next games they had out. Republic Commando showed me they still havent lost all quality, that game really was something different. And now i go by BF2, in spite of all the reviews and complaints i had heard of it being buggy.
We all will buy it. Dont kid yourselves.
And really, the only thing i honestly think lucas arts/pan need to get in order, is customer services and support. They really seem to care less if we need something or if the modtools are incorrect. This is something that is a fundamental part of a successful game, that lucas arts/pan hasnt accomplished lately.
If they would give us straight answers, instead of this half-*** bull about "not knowing" and "let me check", only to disappear, it would be a lot better. I know they have jobs and the Pan guys are probably working on some other Pandemic game. Or maybe they are enjoying life. Buy what im getting at is if there is a bug, or a fault, or an issue in the engine, and they are embarrased or for whatever reason dont want to share it, thats a load of crap and is only causing the modding community more pain.
Like glow, for example. I know darn well that they, at least one of them, knows how to put glow on an object. My guess is it exposes something else, or requires access to base files that they dont want available to the public.
I think la/pan has a lot of potential, and frankly by releasing games like a production line it only cuts profits in the longrun - use all your ideas at once, but half-*** it and you will be blank and poor.
Anyhow, has anyone considered my suggestion on simply mirroring everything?

I don't mind being harsh on Lucasarts. There where some nice features they took out of the game from the beta to retail version that worked great in the beta. They left it in on the PS2, but took it out from the PCs. They also had to spend time to take out prone. It seems most of the problems are from the graphics department. Pandemic has said they are not going to make a SWBF3.
