Not just at Gametoast even, I'm noticing piles of maps coming out as beta and never being updated.

It takes time to make a reallly good map and polish it so its complete, and I think for many of us map making is a whole new experience so were still learning. As for my trench map, I'm still working on it but ive run into some problems so things are progressing slowly.
Don't kno why their aint any map making teams yet. Maybe we all think were too good and don't need other people lol. Maybe its still early, the tools haven't really been out all that long.

Yeah, more or less the same. I should be releasing Death Star, Dantooine and Tynna as 1.0 this weekend, but I am sure someone will find something. But again, there is always 1.1.
The reason why I beta test is that I do not have anybody as of now to beta test my maps here, so I give betas to the community, and I get some good suggestions (from forums.lucasarts.com and
http://www.lucasforums.com and some for here). But you are right, we should release one beta, get the feedback, and then release 1.0.

Konicon, I think it would be really useful to have a broad-based TeamSpeak server set up for modding. As a member of TAW, we have our own MOD Channel that we can talk about any issues, ask questions to each other about modding while we are in the process of creating maps. This is a big reason that I released a beta recently as well as TAW_Rawkfist (TAW_City - trust me, his is better...lol). But along with about 4 others are in that channel alot and it really helps when there is someone RIGHT there to ask.

Yes guru, there is much truth in your poll.
Most custom maps i downloaded are only betas and a some are only alphas. And it´s much more hard work to go back into a project again ,fix the bugs add the missing stuff tweak the gameplay then creating a new beta project.
This isn´t a problem of battlefront mods only i saw this on other modable games too.
I for myself made a public beta of the Jundland Wastes and few days later i released the final version with some changes to the previos version. Hey run bftest and you won´t see many error messages and the few messages you will see are not importand (like Vehicle spawn outside control region wich doesn´t matter because AI will use the anyway).
I fixed all known bugs i could fix except the 2 collision problems wich could only be fixed with a working XSImodtools we don´t have yet.
My project was localized into 2 languages comes with a full Readme and also with a ingame movie and it´s the first custom map for SWBF i would call final so i did it.

Im not harping on anyone, and I know the tools are rel. diffictult/as well as new and everyone has put so much into learning the tools, putting the time into making them which is one large step more then those who just download and whine about issues on the maps, my concern was more of a "are there going to be 853 hoth redo maps?" or are some of you makng teams and trying to make a mod for the game?
If some of you are good with models and some at re-skins then it would be a great thing to see some maps with detailed thought, put into action with memerbs on each skill, then updated maybe a often as once a week or an ongoing project until the desired outcome is reached. Its just that 50% of the things Im seeing on the net/here are " Ive got my map now with spawnpoints, enjoy" ,lol.
RE: teamspeak, the server is always up , someone mentioned not being able to get on it , but Its is used daily and has over 200 logins since I put it up so its there, just check the teamspeak forum posts

i´m pretty sure that mod teams will be created or start modding once a working XSI modtools addon is available.
At the moment everyone is dealing with the stuff shipped with the tools. Such mods can be done by one person.
The day we will be able to create new objects will be the day we (modders) will start to create realy NEW worlds not only variations of exsisting ones. Then it will be the time of 3d modellers texture artists and mappers .
We don´t stop here we just have started!

Hey all! I'm actually considering getting (back?) into this. I'd like to create a series of "related" maps -- say five or six on the same world, each that progresses to an ultimate goal.
Almost exactly one month ago today, my car was stolen -- pretty much right around the time the official tools were released. That's why (for those of you here who remember me) I sort of disappeared for a while here. My old car has since been written off, and I'm getting close to getting a new one finally. I didn't have much time to think about modding for Battlefront.

Welcome back riley! Sorry to hear about your car stealage
It will be nice to have your ideas, creations and energy on the forums again...
Your progressive maps idea sounds great , almost like bf1942 get to the beach, get to the bunker, next map is up the hill from their , reach the castle/hideout ect...

Did anyone else notice pinx's shameless self promotion of TAW then? Or am i just being picky lol.... I don't have broadband at the moment so I can't really use teamspeak.
Yes I guess some people are a bit over enthusiastic after they've made their first map and actually got it to work and decided to submit it (self included). Perhaps you should make another download section guru where we can submit our beta maps and have a big warning at the top of the page "WARNING: THESE MAPS ARE STILL IN DEVELOPMENT, SO THEIR FULL OF BUGS" so that both map makers and regular battlefront players know what maps are complete and what maps are in development. And once we've finally completed them, we could submit them to the complete maps download section.
Thats a nice idea riley The single player in battlefront would have been nice if was like that. I always thought it was a bit short with only two maps per planet.
Yes Rends, judgement day is coming. On that day a working mesh shall emerge from Softimage XSI, and so to will the modding teams.... it has been fortold in the stars lol....

Konicon - my map is FAR from done. You're right - I jumped the gun and I don't blame anyone for agreeing with you. Hopefully I can upgrade this soon - I just wanted to get something out there and see if people at least liked the general idea. I possibly should have left reviewing to other members of TAW.
As far as shameless self promotion...hmmm, you're probably right there too. For the most part though, I would really like to see most of the SWBF community in clans (and not necessarily TAW). I don't think that most people realize you can still balance jobs, girlfriends/spouses, social life and still be in a clan.
This is my first clan and I've never had more fun in an online game...with Battleweek 3 (hosted by ASF), ModFest and the Battlefront World Championship, we may have a game here that will last in the online community for a long time. I would like to think so, anyways...lol
I played BF1942 forever and wished and wished a Star Wars version would come out (like a lot of you) - when I heard it was I just wanted to take my gaming to another level and I believe that joining a clan (ANY CLAN THAT IS) will make you see this game in a whole new light.
Cheers
