Post by Ace_Azzameen_5 »

This mother board I got from a freinds computer that got busted(I think its the MB or the Processor, the 15gig drives in my new pc.) and it has these to ports ive never scen before. There is this small agp like one about 3 cm or an inch and a half long, and this vertically oriented one the about 4 inches or 10 cm long, with clamps on it. Anyone know what they are for?

It is an ISA slot ! I've got one of these slots on my own mother-board, so I can easily recognize them...
PS : What's the manufacturer of this main board ?

Uh, no, the ISA slot is the Black thing on the far left. And I was talking about two things. They are circled in red. I think that Diet Dr. Pepper netfirms company disallows direct image linking, sso I have to embed it in an html page.

If this slot is not an ISA, so maybe it's a CNR one...

CNR slots are used for "very low profile" cards, like some internal modems... (Quite old...)

Actually, I think it is. one of those shortly lived experiments that aparrently didn't catch on. It is used for both soundcard and modem. Sad part was, only two manufacurers I know of made cards for those slots. It failed half the time anyways. POS. You don't need it. :)

These CNR slots are useless, but ASUS and other manufacturers have continued to make mother-boards which possess these slots ! I precise that those main-boards are not common...

The CNR port is the one which is located at the right of your five white PCI ports...

What about the other one? I've seen one of them with this .5 cm thinck card with a fan on it....maybe its some sort of 'integrated' graphics, so you can put in a new 'card' but use the port built into the MB. . .

The other port is probably intended to CPU's cooling... In effect, I think you can place a fan mounted on a PCB there. (This is not an integrated video chipset !... :D )

Judging that it is using the VIA chipset, The second slot with the black clips is for a AMD slot A processor, but it can also be a slot 1 port for the old PIIIs. The smaller one is definately a CNR. What processor is in the ZIF slot currently?

It was a celeron 533 mhz processor, I'm not sure if its the MB thats dead, the processor or maybe something is wrong with the power system.

I bought a new 300 watt one to test if the power unit was dead and it still did not work.
